Is it pronounced Louisville or Louieville?

I use the French pronounciation.

Loo u vul

This reminds me of the old classic.."How do you pronounce the Capitol of KY, Looieville or Lewisville?"

Shellie722 I have lived in Louisville, Ky my entire life and it's Lou-a-vul or simply Ville (Da Ville or The Ville either is fine)

I also like Lou Evil. ;) Or simply, the 502

its lou-a-vul. Anyone that pronounces it louieville has never set foot south of the ohio river. :sunny:

native resident btw that has never ever heard lowell-vile

HEY!! I've been to Louisville and I say "lewie-ville". You actually cannot say "lou-a-vil" if you don't have a southern accent.

There is also a town outside just west of Lexington called Versailles, that is pronounced: Versales
In Ohio we have a place by the same name and pronounced the same way. We have a lot like that here that is "pronounced wrong" :p

As for the other, I've even heard it pronounced Lull-ville... not sure which Louisville they were talking about, but I've heard that before too. I'm closer to loo-uh-vul, though if I am going slower the middle part is a bit more nasaly though not totally an "ee" sound.

No true - been coming down to Louisville on a yearly basis for 4 days at a crack for the past 13-14 years. :teeth:

And you must not hang out with some of the employees of Price-Weber ;) - one of their reps pronounced it Lowell-ville.
