Is it possible weekends in OCT that all rooms are already booked at some resorts?

Thinking about revisiting in October for the NSSHP. Is it really possible some resorts are sold out for weekends in OCT???

Absolutely. Especially the weekend of Columbus Day, and the weekend after.

Yes, the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2018 will take place at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, Walt Disney World Swan, and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and Disney's Boardwalk Oct. 14-18.

The have blocked rooms at all the Deluxe Hotels before and after the conference. In addition the MNSSHP is very popular not to mention that Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is running until Nov. 12. October is now a very busy month.

Why? I don't understand this -can you explain?

Over the last 6-7 years, October has become the most popular time to go other than major Holidays for many reasons. The introduction of Free Dining during that time, awesome weather, Food & Wine Festival, the Halloween Parties, etc.

The Gartner Symposium is THE biggest convention held at WDW. They take up a huge amount of rooms at the Deluxe resorts. This causes a trickle down affect to ALL resorts as people still want to go so guests that were going to book a Deluxe but now can't book a Moderate. Then they fill up and guests who wanted to book a Moderate and can't but really want to go at that time book a Value. Then the Values fill up.

Yes. October is an extremely busy time at WDW. A ton of Internet travel articles were written several years ago, describing October's perfect weather & low crowds. Partially as a result of this Internet cheerleading, and partially as a result of fall special events at WDW, October became a very popular time to go.

There were dozens and dozens and dozens of threads last year about the exact same thing. "Why can't I find a room anywhere on property in October" was a constant refrain. Tough month for sure. Book early and often. :-)

In addition to everything mentioned above, you have Fall Break at almost all Southern schools. No idea how wide it's spread out of the South but all schools in this area have a full week off in Oct. It varies, much like Spring Break, to be one of the first 2 weeks in Oct.

The good news is while they are booked now, there are openings later, as folks change plans and rooms drop back in to inventory.
I never plan our trips this far out and we've always gotten in a trip in Oct (over our fall break) and we've never had a problem finding room or rooms.
Last year we even got our rooms at YC. We arrived the final day of the Symposium.

Actually, a lot of Southern schools have no fall break at all.
At least all in my tri-state vicinity do, and I think FL does too. No matter, there are Fall Breaks and I can speak for here, huge numbers of our circle go to Disney for Fall Break. It's the #1 place the kids at DGD's school are heading. Too cool for the Beach, everyone will go see family the next month for Thanksgiving, so they go Disney instead.

We are heading to Disney October 17-22. (kids have a few days off from school). Tried renting DVC from a friend - nothing available. I have points and booked us at the Dolphin but because of the convention there were no rooms on the 17th. So, I'm just going to keep checking as I'm sure all the room they have blocked off won't be used. (Crossing fingers)

Conventions can pre-book room blocks and re-sell them to attendees. After a certain contract date, they can release any unsold units back to Disney.

However, with Gartner, this pretty much does not happen. The number of rooms they use between attendees and exhibitors is :banana:

Thanks. Will keep trying. Picked Dolphin over Swan as they have twice as many rooms so figured I may have a better shot at getting this date. If not then we will stay by the airport that night (our flight gets in late). Just would rather already be at the resort and with paying with points you get the 5 day free so will not cost any more to get that day if it becomes available.
