Is it possible to upgrade to AP and still book pkg with room PIN + dining?

I can't figure out where to post this, I hope this is okay

A friend and I are going to Disney World at the end of the month and have already purchased 4 day PH tickets. DH and I are planning a trip in May that I'm supposed to be booking this weekend. I'm contemplating upgrading the 4 day PH ticket to an AP when I'm there on the first trip, BUT I'm not sure how it would work with a May reservation, therefore I haven't booked it yet. You have to buy tickets in order to book a package with dining, correct? DH is dead set on getting the deluxe dining plan on that May trip. Is it possible to book using a PIN code, add dining, and only purchase ONE park ticket for dh? Or would I be required to purchase at least a 1 day park ticket for myself as well in order to add dining? If I book now including tickets for us both, is there a way to adjust it without losing my reservation after I've upgraded to an AP?

Any help is much appreciated, I hope my question makes sense!

You can upgrade to the AP at the parks (within 14 days of first use). As for May if it is a package that requires at least a 1 day ticket then there is no way around that (like free dining), but most other discounts have an AP equivelent so you can just book that (you do not need to have your AP yet, just when you check in)

Thanks! I saw how to upgrade in the ticket info thread, I'll do it after I activate my ticket. I called the reservation center and they were able to set up a package with deluxe dining for me even thought I don't have my AP yet. I just have to show it on check-in.

You can book a ticketless package with an AP and get dining; you don't have to have the AP in hand when you book. You can upgrade the tickets you already have to an AP when you get there. However, you may not be able to book the room code PIN and add dining even with an AP.

Your best bet is to call. It may be cheaper to give up the room discount rather than buy tickets you don't need.
