Is it possible to purchase VGC directly from Disney?

I was wondering if it is actually possible to purchase VGC from Disney directly? The resale prices are high to begin with, so I wouldn’t mind purchasing from Disney to get the extra member perks, and the exact amount and use year I want. However is it possible to even do this? Is there a long wait list? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

I believe that DVC closed the waitlist well over a year ago for VGC. That is the case for VGF and BCV also.

And there's no guarantee of Use Year when buying a waitlist resort. They have to ROFR a contract to get points, and can't change a point's UY.

I was at Disneyland yesterday and asked the rep about it. I told him I was only interested in the grand cal and he didn't even try to pretend it was available. He said only poly and aulani are available currently

I have been on the DEC UY VGC waitlist for 2 years waiting for the rest of my points. Dvc did sell me a portion of points that i was waitlisted for 2 years ago. Told me that it might be a while before they call me again.

Don't you love it when they may it easy on you like that? I s'pose it was their way of saying, "Nope, we got nothing. Buh-bye!"

It is possible to buy direct from Disney, but it assumes a lot of things. You need to have a cooperative DVC guide, you would need a use year no one is waiting on, and you need to have excellent timing. So the odds are extremely against you, but it's technically possible.

Is DVC more likely to take advantage of the ROFR on a VGC due to the long wait list or does it really matter? I would think that they would be able to flip those relatively easy since the waitlist is so long.

The resale prices are high so they wouldn't make much on them so no, not a great deal of incentive for them to do that IMO.

Yes, I would think that after paying a sales commission there would be nothing in it for Disney. They seem to be serving the wait list through foreclosures for non payment of loans and or dues.

We were waitlisted for a 50-point add-on at Grand Californian for fourteen months and we'd said we didn't care what use year they were from...we ended up getting our own use year points in March of 2015 and learned shortly afterward the waitlist had closed and it hasn't opened since. Just returned from our first trip to VCG as owners. We'd been lucky twice before getting rooms at the 7 month window, but realized that wouldn't always happen and since moving to Colorado we visit the west coast park more often. We were fortunate our guide helped us get the 50 point contract with 50 trailing points from the previous year so that kind of felt like a bonus to make up for the price differential between direct and resale (which of course, for Grand Cal, isn't that big). We love, love, love Grand Cal!

Congrats! Although, don't give your guide too many extra kudos. You always get the points that way when you buy direct. You basically get the current use year right away, then the next allocation when it flips over to the next, which may be shortly thereafter. It "feels" like a bonus, but it's what you're entitled to.

Still though, congrats again on your contract. It looks like a lovely resort!

We've been on the list for well over 2 years. I check in with our guide periodically but haven't made a huge issue of it. I keep finding other ways to spend the extra several thousands of dollars in the meantime, lol. I do believe that there is an official waitlist but that its exact "order" doesn't have a lot of integrity. I'm sure there are many factors that contribute to our priority on that list (or lack thereof).

It was worth the wait for us, and I'm sure it will be for you. Who really knows the mystical factors that determine who gets points and when. Hope it happens soon for you, though!

I will scan the resale options periodically to find the resort I am interested in. To date, garden views realty (**********.com - there is a block out on the site address) and the time share store (dvc-resales.com) has the VGC on their listing. I hope that helps.
If you are interested in the perks you can buy 25 points directly from Disney at any resort (then transfer the points into your account from a resale contract for your desired use).
As far as I know, Disney has not specified a minimum of direct purchase points to qualify for perks.

How does this work exactly? Can you just call Disney and add 25 points at any time to any DVC resort as long as you are already an owner?

At a minimum, there must be points available in the use year you want. Properties like Grand Californian had long wait lists that eventually got closed because the demand exceeded supply. So IF there are points available in the use year you want at the property you are interested in, your guide should be able to make short work of a sale.

How do you find out if there are points available, there doesn't seem to be anything online? If I wanted to add 25 points to BWV (that we're in the process of buying now), do I just call a Disney DVC guide and ask them if there is any availability?

Yes, you would talk to a guide. They are the DVC timeshare sales people.
