Is it possible to get an upgrade when you check in?

Our first cruise will be December 28, 2004 on the western 7 day...I was curious as to how many have gotten upgrades when they checked in/

we are in category 11 at this time, inside stateroom...has anyone stayed in this area?

I don't think up grades on DCL are that common. On my two sailings - Nov 2001 and Jan 2003 they had signs posted that the ship was full and there would be no up grades / room changes. My parents have cruised 8 times with DCL and never been offered an upgrade. My suggestion, book the cat that you want.:(

We sailed in a cat. 11 on the Wonder 3-day and it was fine. Yes, there's no view, but we didn't spend much time in the cabin anyway. That being said, we are going on a 7-day and have booked an oceanview for that. Being inside didn't matter on such a short trip, but a whole week would be different.

As popular as the Disney cruise is, I doubt that any upgrades are possible especially at holiday time.

We are going on our forth seven day cruise this December. The previous three (in the space of two and a half years) have been twice for my bday and once for our anniversory and we have never heard a peep about upgrades. I think people should book what they can afford and will enjoy and just forget the whole upgrade thing as it will only make you nuts wishing/wanting what you do not have or did not get.

You are sailing on a very popular week, NYE. I booked this cruise for this year and it is sold out. Don't think you will have any luck with an upgrade.

We can afford to stay in a verandah or ocean view if we really wanted but our 2 cruises on DCL have been category 11's. We would rather save the the money and use it for excursions and other things. Makeupmania: we will be on the 10 day cruise right before you. My family and all the other disers will try to keep it in fairly good condition for you! LOL:) Like other people said, I can pretty much gurantee you that will be a sold out cruise. You will enjoy your category 11, your only in it to sleep.

We had sailed on the Halloween Cruise this past October and we were upgraded upon check-in...

We had originally had a category 11...and then a month before we were upgraded to a category 6...and then upon check in we were given a category 4 AND Concierge service...any one know how this happened to us and no one else?

I thought only Cat.3's and above get concierge service?
WOW you are one lucky family to get a cat.4 at the price of an 11. That is a several thousand dollar gift you got!!!:Pinkbounc

Well, yeah, that is true..but we had something that was called V.I.P treatment...category 4...it meant that we got concierge service and an upgrade...plus a private table at dinner and the Lumiere rotation...

I know! It's been months now and I still can't believe it!!! It was really special because the cruise was my birthday gift (although my bday did not fall on the cruise date)and my mom flew my cousin down so she could enjoy it with me...let's just say we had a KILLER time!!!

YIKES! My parents and sister and her family were on the Magic over Halloween last year and they were certainly not given an up grade. Don't question it, I hope you enjoyed it though!!:smooth:

What is the lumiere rotation? By private table do you mean for your family only? Was that arranged by the concierge staff?
Wow can you put in a good word for me?

I've sailed on 2 Wonder cruises (4 day) and a 7 day Western Magic. They've all been in Cat 11 on Deck 7. I just booked a 4 day for Oct 19- Cat 11 Deck 7 again. I wouldn't mind an upgrade but I'm quite content where I am.

Lumiere rotation meaning Lumiere's, Animator's Palet, Parrot Cay. Yes, it was just our family....actually it wasn't arranged, it was just like that...and I would give in a good word for you...but I really don't know how I got the upgrade!!!

I will tell you that Joseph in Concierge is EXCELLENT!!!

Last Oct. 19 (7 day Eastern) my parents upgraded at the port from cat. 9 to cat. 6 for $350. To go from cat. 10 to cat. 6 was $800. They jumped at the move and it made the cruise for them - and we are going with them this Nov. without kids! We stayed with our connecting cat. 10's (although there were connecting cat. 6's available) - not worth $1600 to me (there were 7 of us in the two cabins - 2 adults, 5 kids).
