My best friend and I have reservations for HDDR in May, and I really wish we could do something besides fried chicken. My friend is an athlete and very (read obsessively) careful about what she eats, but I think we'll have a blast rolling our eyes at the wonderfully corny fun at HDDR. Somehow, I can't picture her eating fried chicken or ribs, though.
Dilemna. . .
I tried calling Disney Dining for a special request, but they said to ask for special food when we check in. This is a little too last minute for a compulsive (read obsessive) planner like myself.
Anyone have any experience with special requests at HDDR?

I had planned on calling the number that dining gave me to request a food change for HDDR before our trip last December. I became really sick just before our trip and never got around to calling. My son is special needs and we also had a person with us with many allergies. I figured we would just do the best we could with the meal as we go for the show anyway(even though I love the food). Upon being seated our server asked if we would have any special request for Dson and then sent out the chef. He spoke to us and was able to fix something special for both my son and the person with allergies. They could of had more choice's if I had called in advance but everyone was very satisfied with what they received. We were really impressed with our server that he thought to ask if Dson may want or need something different than what was being served. We left him an extra tip other than what is allready included. So yes you can wait and mention it upon arrival but I'd call the HDDR number you can get from disney dining. I have misplaced the number or i'd give it to you. Susan

Thanks so much for the info. I know the chefs usually go out of their way to accomodate special dietary needs, so I was hopeful. I'll try WDW dining again to see if I can get the HDDR number.

I made exactly such a request at Hoop Dee Doo. When I called the Hoop office, they told me to call back the day before my reservation. When I did, they were very helpful in offering suggestions of what they could prepare for me. Baked chicken was an option, but I took them up on the offer of grilled fish with steamed veggies and baked potato. It was delicious! I was presented with a large plate that had 2 6-oz fillets of mahi mahi and about 2 cups of steamed mixed veggies and a very large baked potato. They can also swap out the dessert if you wish.

My DD is a vegetarian and they were able to fix her a great plate even though I had not placed a special order the night before for her.

They do a wonderful job of meeting everyone's needs! :thumbsup2

here's the number for HDDR 407-824-2858
when we made our ADRs last year, we were told to call 48 hours before our ADR to re-alert them to food allergies... we also met w/a chef upon arrival at our table :)

Thanks for the input; this is so encouraging! Really appreciate the HDD phone number gigi1313. How does anybody plan a WDW vaca witout the DIS?!
