Hi,
I heard that the Astro Orbiter is closed 4/20-6/12 but it isn't listed anywhere as closed for refurbishment on the Disney webpage??

Also heard the Golden Zephyr suddenly closed for reburbishment and no news when it opens.

Also found a lot of minor closures (unless you count Snow White being closed for a month during the summer minor)

I have no idea, but thanks for posting the list! Where did you get it?

I hope the Golden Zephyr is back up when I go...I don't think it's a great ride or anything but I like it because it's very historically inspired (they had very similar rides in Coney Island's heyday for instance :) ).

Similar information about the Astro Orbitor refurb is also found in the MiceChat DL Project Tracker (link):

Astro Orbitor - Major refurbishment

Details: The Astro Orbitor is scheduled for a major refurbishment March-June 2009, which will include repainting the attraction in a blue-and-silver color scheme and maintenance on the broken spinning planets. David "Darkbeer" Michael reported on 2/6 that the attraction may be too costly to repair and Disney is now considering its permanent removal, but Al Lutz later reported that Disney is not removing the attraction at this time.
Project Status: In progress. Began April 20.
Completion Date: June 12, 2009

Darkbeer has pics on micechat of walls around the astro orbitor but doesn't really say anything about it. He has a photo gallery at darkbeer.smugmug.com

Thanks Albort! Wow? Ariel's rides is going to wipe out my favorite Corn Dog Station!!!!!

  • Dinosaur Jack’s Sunglass Shack is scheduled to close permanently on May 26th, 2009. It does not fit the new theming and while cute may be history.
  • I was at DLR on April 24th and the Golden Zephyr was down for unscheduled maintenance. The reopening is not known at this time and I will check later to see its status. The CM said that is was not scheduled for closure and I saw maintenance CMs working on the ride.
  • Souvenir 66 and Corn Dog Castle close June 1, 2009 and may not be back until 2011. You can still get a corn dog fix at the red wagon near Plaza Inn. The souvenir stand definitely will be back with a Victoria seaside resort look as Seaside Souvenirs.
  • Cosmic Waves is currently closed and in for a major overhaul. This is that giant rotating marble ball and play area that has not gotten guests wet for ages.

Yup, Astro Orbitor is still closed down, walls all around it too.

Golden Zephyr was closed, no walls up but the ride was down. Bummer too, my girls like that one and wanted to ride it. Oh well.....

I'll see tomorrow or Wed. if it's still down.

I knew Dinosaur Jack’s Sunglass Shack was closing soon as one of the PP photogs told me to get pix of it, as well as Orange Stinger, about a month or so ago, since they were going to be being closed next.

Cool about EP returning to DL! I miss it there.

According to DNephew who tried out for EP it will still be at DCA-adding 2 new floats and removing 2 others.

The second edition of the D23 magazine just came out and the DCA map shows no Maliboomer, Jumpin Jellyfish is shown on a boardwalk that encircles the bay, no SS Rustworthy, no Corn Dog Castle, and they do have the shop returning from route 66 as a Seaside shop. From their plans in that magazine it is best to say bye bye to the pizza place also. They seem to be keeping the Golden Zephyr though and may be ripping out the Zephyr train up front and replace it with bistros or cafes or shops, not sure.

Walls were still up around it and we thought it looked like they were taking it down. I am happy to see it go. It needs to be up high where it belongs!

Love the Village House...Brats & Knacks. :thumbsup2

I agree with Eva & like the Zephyr because it's a nice ride that was historically inspired (& it's not in the way of traffic like the Orbiter). Will especially miss it since it's being replaced by a lamo mermaid ride. ;)

Corn Dog Castle - 6/1/09-???? Gone due to Little Mermaid Ride

Dagnabbit....I'm gonna lose the Zephyr AND my corny dogs because of a mermaid ride.

Maybe they'll serve Corny Dogs at the DCA Villiage type House. ?? :teacher::yay:

Thanks for all the info, guys. :thumbsup2

I hope everyone looked at the concept art in the new D23 magazine. I am so glad that they currently have the Zephyr ride and Jumpin Jellyfish still showing as being in the park when they are done.

I feel the Zephyr going down was not due to planning like when Peter Pan and Snow White are going down. I was there when it was open to the public and had a CM out there while dudes where working on the ride.
