Why? I don't entirely understand the system but that's a peerage connected to land isn't it? Does he not hold the Duchy of Sussex? Can he not be a Duke without being a Royal Duke? Just trying to learn...

The current rules are that Harry and his son and grandson would be royal duke but after that it becomes a normal dukedom. My point is if he wants out he should be out completely and give up the title instead of doing what he did trademark sussexroyal tee shirts etc to make money on being royal

I can't even imagine what sort of pressure and responsibilities come with being a part of a Royal family. This is something that Harry was brought up on his entire life and when Meghan entered his life something changed. He and Meghan had to have many long conversations with the Grandmother, His Dad, His Brother, and His Wife concerning there decision before coming to the final one. The decision should be a personal one as even though they are the Royal family they are a family and if Harry and Meghan want this for themselves and for there children they should have every right to do so. Sure, they both have celebrity status and as for Harry that came with birth and for Meghan it came with Marriage into the family so they will get some media attention when they go out, but to rehash this issue over and over again there is no need for that. As for Harry and Meghan's kids they should not be bothered at all in my opinion.

Just read a report that Meghan was touting for a role in a superhero movie but disney has rebuffed her. Her acting cv is not enough to get a big movie role and getting big acting roles at her age isnt going to be easy. As unfair as that is it’s the truth with Hollywood

they have not had their hrh taken from them though they can’t use them, they have a one year review I think that is the royal family offering them a way back in if they don’t succeed outside.

I don’t think they should be forced to be in the royal family as senior royals if they don’t want to.

But I don’t like the way they’ve handled this from the beginning. Their first statement came out without the knowledge of the palace. To me, that showed a lack of respect for his grandmother. So then there were the discussions after that, where Harry & Megan decided that they didn’t really want to be royal but, oh yeah, “we want to use the moniker “Sussex royal” for their charitable foundation and we want access to Frogmore cottage when we decide to grace you with our presence in the UK and oh we expect that Prince Charles will still give us money for security and we expect that Canada will also provide security and oh the Canadian people can pay for that because isn’t Canada fortunate that we’re living here? Oh and we’re going to TALK about protecting the environment but we’re going traipse all over the world on private jets because after all, WE WANT PRIVACY. Except for when WE want publicity to earn money then we have no problem going to public events and being photographed. And oh, in amongst all this were going to keep putting out petulant statements about the situation which make us sound like we feel like we’re being disrespected.”

Harry is no longer the 12 year old walking behind his mothers casket. He’s a grown man. The PTSD he gets from flashbulbs doesn’t seem to bother him when it’s going to benefit him or his wife. His being recorded talking to Bob Iger attempting to get his wife voiceover work...well does he not realize if there’s a premier for a movie she worked on doing voiceovers that there would be photographers there?

You can’t be royal when it suits you. You can’t expect the benefits of the royal family without shouldering the responsibilities of it.

To clarify, Frogmore Cottage was a wedding gift from his Grandmother and they will be (or maybe already have) repaying the cost of the renovation.

You can still work consistently even without the big roles. But something tells me everyone would squawk about her being “only a supporting actress” if she did that. She just can’t win.

This is a problem of the Royal Family’s own making, though. The reason he needs security is because he was born into royalty, which is not a matter in which he was given any choice or input. Maybe the Royal Family/UK should stop foisting global fame onto people from the moment of their birth if they don’t want to then do what’s necessary to keep them safe.

If the UK is happy to pay I don't see a problem. It's not particularly impressive for M&H to be on the dole from Canada's budget. But, the Canadian issue will be resolved April 1st.

Agreed. The financial responsibility should ultimately fall on whomever it is that wants to perpetuate and/or benefits from keeping a royal family in the first place, whether that’s the UK or the royal family themselves.

As a Brit, I really think the problem isn’t what they’ve done, but how they’ve done it. They made the announcement without informing the Queen, and have made several inflammatory statements since. The concern of the British public is that they are planning to take advantage of their titles and use them to make significant amounts of money. After the British public has spent millions on the couple since they married, this really adds insult to injury, and if the couple aren’t residents of the U.K., they likely won’t even have to pay tax here on the millions they earn.

To be honest, since the wedding the couple have been acting controversially. From Meghan’s excessive spending on clothing all billed to the taxpayer to behaviour at Wimbledon, royal protocol hasn’t been respected as it should have been, and this has caused a lot of discontent here.

I'd imagine that title-or-no-title, anyone who'd be willing to pay to see them, still will. And as far as Royal titles go, is he still allowed to identify as Prince Harry (without the HRH)? I doubt anybody world-wide wouldn't know who was being referred to if the event billing was "Prince Harry & Meghan".
