Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

Give me a break! If life were only that simple. Yes, people fall in love. Some of them never marry. Heck some of them never even tell the other person they are in love with them.

Love or not, before marrying into the Royal Family (her father in law is going to be King of England for goodness sakes) it seems to me some careful reflection should have been done to understand all that is involved. Like it or not, this relationship is more complicated because of who he is.

And don't lose sight of the fact Charles is still giving them a large sum of money every year for their expenses. She must not have a problem with that part of marrying into the family.

And think what you want, I don't hate Meghan. But making excuses for her being some innocent, naïve, delicate little lady is crazy too. I do not believe for ONE SECOND she did not know who Harry was.

ETA: I also don't believe she was scheming to marry him for years. But some of the assumptions is the other direction are just as out there, in my opinion.

Give you a break? Honey, you care way too much about these strangers. What's your issue with Charles giving them money? Lots of rich people give their kids money. Given that Harry will need security because of what he was born into makes sense.

Now for someone who doesn't hate Meghan, you sure are angry. No one ever said she was innocent, naive or delicate. She was actually strong, independent and confident (and people despised her for that too).

I also thought of something else about after the wedding. I think it was three days later that they - meaning the RF and H&M - very publicly celebrated Charles’ seventieth birthday. I wonder how it felt to Thomas Markle to see that, as he was recovering from his heart problems (eta and as he was being thought of as a liar, deadbeat and flake by much of the world). Did anyone care about him then? We’re flowers sent? Phone calls? I don’t think so, but who knows. Maybe we’ll find out during the lawsuit proceedings. I have not seen anything to that effect. If anyone else has, could you post it? By all accounts (including their own) H&M were angry at him and no longer communicating with him.

Again...that funeral was over 20 years ago. And the only news I recall of Harry between the funeral and his own wedding was that naked hotel romp. I've walked by many famous people (lived in NYC) without realizing who they were until someone else pointed them out. If you want to hold that against her, be my guest.

So you believe Meghan did not know who Harry was until....when?

I don't know exactly how they met, but I hardly doubt they ran into each other in line at Whole Foods. I would assume (and I know what you get for assuming) it was at some sort of get together. I would also think someone would have said to her, "Hey, Prince Harry is going to be here."

Or do you think she was introduced to some guy named Harry, dated him, fell in love and then realized that he was the Prince.

That seems far fetched. She had time to consider all she was getting involved in.

Heck, I am divorced and on my second marriage. I considered plenty before getting married, and he isn't a Prince!

ETA: I am not angry. I just think the fact you will not consider any one else's opinion to be possible annoying. lol!

You are right about that. But it’s so easy to pull out the R card. It’s funny that it’s mostly white people that pull out that card. It’s tiring actually and really does nothing, except perpetuate racism. My best friend is black. He happens to be tired of it. He actually laughs about.

Oh noes. It's the card insurmountable by any other card known to carddom. The "I have a black friend" card.

Racists perpetuate racism aided and abetted by those that bury their heads in the sand. Pointing it out does not.

I'm fine with other's opinions, just don't get the hate or the concern people even have for this. From what I remember, she said she didn't know much about him, not that she didn't know him.

Geez Pea, you are really sympathetic to this man.

Just to clarify, as per Riannon Mills, Royal Corespondent on Sky News

The HRH is a title used to denote WORKING members of the Royal Family. As Harry and Meghan will no longer be carrying out Official Royal Duties, they will no longer be able to officially use the the titles HRH. They remain members of the Royal Family, just not working members of the Royal Family. Harry remains a Prince, and they can still use the titles Duke and Duchess.

So why are Andrew's princesses HRH? Time to get rid of those two. Although their probably jumping up and down raising their hands saying "Can I take Harry's place, pleeeeeeease?"

I know this was really long, and most people probably glossed it over  but this went over the whole issue about the lawsuit and the wedding problem with the dad. (From page 27 or 28.)

Wooooowww. She is something else.

To me, the RF stars come and go. We went years in between a funeral and a wedding not really paying attention to them (on this side of the pond at least). I wouldn't have recognized the guy either.
There are a lot of people on this side of the pond, and around the world, in fact, who enjoy watching and learning about the RF. It’s a hobby of sorts.

Speaking of which, where has @Imzadi been on this thread??

Well I can say that racism 100% played no role for me when I made my uneducated more negative leaning opinion of her. This was before I even realized she was black! Call me ignorant but it much later when her mother came up in the press that I even realized was was mixed race. Now I see the ethincity because I know, but to me she looked like a darker skinned white person, maybe italien. What turned many off was the whole actress, social climbing thing.

This is what I don't get. What's your problem with actresses? It's a job. And why do you think she was a social climber...same was actually said about Kate's family too, so this should be interesting.

As grandaughters to the Queen, the were born Princesses! And at one time, their father was much closer in line to the throne than he is now. (Before grandchildren in line were born.)

Blech. Now imagine having be a Pea Watcher criticizing everything you do. Wouldn't you want out?

But they are far away from it now. Harry didn't do a title for his son. Charlotte and Louis' kids won't have titles. Let's get modern here Yorks. I know Andrew has been desperate to have his girls in the picture, but it's gotten quite pathetic. BTW, how is it that there is more vitriol for Harry for not wanting to hang on as a spare and become Andrew then there was for Andrew's scandal?

😂 I don’t hold anything against her. But she lied. 20 years ago or not, she knew who he was. And he has been in the news for much more than that. Like whatever it was he did in the military. I see it in passing and and still hear it and see his face.

Didn’t they meet on a set up date? Come on do you really think no one even hinted at who he was before hand? Besides not even close to the same as passing someone on the street. You don’t recognize people in places you do not expect them to be but she didn’t say she didn’t recognize him. That was not her words at all.

Why are you reaching so hard to defend her while at the same time showing obvious distaste for the other Royals?

Again, I only remember her saying she didn't know much about him; not that she didn't know who he was. And guess what? People think they might know a lot about this guy, but they really don't.

A quickie. I have no idea how accurate this is but it was the first one I found in the interest of time. It gets complicated and it’s hard for us here to grasp at times.

I’m sure I wouldn’t like it! But then again, I didn’t marry into it! If I had, I would’ve known what I was getting into, that’s for sure! :rotfl2:

Can't say enough. No one is really ever prepared for it except those born into it.
