The Queen informed both of them after that interview they had to get a divorce something Diana didn't want to do according to the interview with BashierRegardless of whether Diana ever admitted to regretting the interview, it did her a lot of damage long-term. Even her staunchest supporters (like me- she's one of my favorite royals) had to admit after seeing that interview that she was bitter and unstable. Prince William wouldn't speak to her for weeks afterwards, because he was humiliated at her admissions (particularly infidelity) which were aired out while he was surrounded by his peers at boarding school. The intimacy and anger of her revelations made her a permanent outcast from the rest of the royal family. It led to her being stripped of her HRH title and along with it, royal protection. If she'd had royal protection, it is extremely unlikely that she would have died while fleeing paparazzi in a car driven by a drunk driver.
Meghan and Harry certainly have an agenda, no one is doubting that. But they've already proven themselves heavy handed in their methods and (unlike Diana) ineffective at winning widespread public approval. Over the past two years, their popularity has taken a sharp nosedive. They tried to create a surface level only royal role for themselves, and that effort fell flat on its face. They tried to portray themselves as privacy-oriented & responsible environmental stewards to the general public, but as their actions have sharply diverged from their words, that has won them only derision, as well.
So no, I don't think this interview will do them any good in the long term. They're not as smart as they think they are. Or to put it another way, we're not as dumb as they think we are.
DIANA: I don't want a divorce, but obviously we need clarity on a situation that has been of enormous discussion over the last three years in particular. So all I say to that is that I await my husband's decision of which way we are all going to go. BASHIR: If he wished a divorce to go through, would you accept that? DIANA: I would obviously discuss it with him, but up to date neither of us has discussed this subject, though the rest of the world seems to have. BASHIR: Would it be your wish to divorce? DIANA: No, it's not my wish. |
Meghan has quite a baby bump but its after his cousin has her baby boy and there was a lot of news about the birth and the name when they announced, they really seem to hate it if another member of the royal family gets any headlines. Every time there is a news story about William, Catherine or any of the relatives there is a story about Meghan and harry.Am I the only one who saw the birth announcement and thought -- hey, that's a riff on Notting Hill?
I think at the moment we are in this point of the saga (or this was it already for the past 18 months)

A little OT, but can you tell me what significance the name August has? I got a bit lost in that part.
I just saw that last night - first I heard that Jack & Eugenie were even expecting and it was via a link in the Daily Mail article that was linked here upthread. They get zero press here, nor do any of the rest of them unless it's something earth shaking. A little OT, but can you tell me what significance the name August has? I got a bit lost in that part.

The name August seems to be a nod to Eugenie's fourth great-grandfather, Albert, Prince Consort, who was the husband of Queen Victoria. According to the royal family's official website, Albert's full name was Prince Franz August Karl Albert Emanuel.
To my taste it's kind of horrible actually (so is Archie) but I suppose it could be worse. At least the Royal Family has never gone trendy with the names so we don't have to roll eyes over a Prince Jaxon or Princess Neveah.I found this:

She does say that he is named after "both" of this great X5 grandfathers (though don't you have something like 32 great X5 grandfathers)? Unless you're just counting straight through the paternal line.
Harry is damaged goods and easily manipulated There was a time I pitied him. He's gone from Poor Harry to Stupid Harry in my opinion. I feel bad for the entire family especially the Queen. Although it's partly her fault for overindulging her grandson. H&M are toxic and the Royals need to wash their hands of them completely. Harry and his kids need to be removed from the line of succession too. That's hilarious. But I'm on the record in this thread in as being one that doesn't lay the blame for all of this on Meghan. None of it would be happening if Harry didn't choose it; the decisions were ultimately his to make and he made them.
This. And lose their HRH. Imo that was the queen's one error in regards to the negotiations last year. She should have stated that they would need to give up their HRH titles after the one year review if they chose not to return to royal life. That way it wouldn't be seen as stripping them of the titles, so much as them choosing another life over the titles. Now, if Meghan gives a very damaging interview or eventually wades into politics, the queen will probably feel the need to remove the HRH, and it won't seem as benign a gesture. Not that most Brits would probably mind at this point. If Prince Philip dies anywhere near the time of their Oprah interview, I think the British consensus would be overwhelmingly in favor of them being stripped of their titles.Harry and his kids need to be removed from the line of succession too.
King Edward went off to live a quiet life. He did not leverage his royal status to make huge amounts of money via commercial deals that he never would have received without his royal connections, and he did not give compromising interviews or make hostile statements in relation to the royal family.King Edward didn't lose his HRH when he abdicated, so I don't think the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will.
Neither deserve it especially her. They are using the titles for profit. Pretty ugly.King Edward didn't lose his HRH when he abdicated, so I don't think the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will.
If I were being really mean and picky,I would suggest that Harry goes back to being plain old HRH Prince Harry, and Meghan is Mrs Mountbatten Windsor.

Harry is a HRH by birth, so I think it would be hard to strip him of the HRH because of thatNeither deserve it especially her. They are using the titles for profit. Pretty ugly.
I love the name.I found this:

Probably because privacy loving Meghan has to upstage every other bit of Royal news. She announced her first pregnancy at Jack and Eugenie's wedding reception. The lastest....just after the birth of August Philip Hawke.I just saw that last night - first I heard that Jack & Eugenie were even expecting and it was via a link in the Daily Mail article that was linked here upthread.
