Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

Surely with the comments made by Gayle King this morning, even fervent supporters of H & M now are aware that they are controlling the constant outpouring of gossip?

if I were anyone in the Royal family I would be taping each and every phone call and keeping any conversation to niceties - just so there can be no later twisting of private discussions.

i wouldn't be talking, texting or emailing with H&M. The RF should expect anything and everything CAN and WILL be used against them in the court of public opinion in an attempt to destroy their family.

Yes I wondered about the word receipts too. I thought it might be an American phrase?
A receipt here in the UK is what you get when you purchase something at a store.
Many businesses, law firms etc set up their e mail system to produce ‘delivered’ and ‘read’ receipts. Perhaps that is what is being referred to.

From the Urban Dictionary:
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=receipts

1. To disbelieve something so much that some kind of hard evidence is required.
2. To be so frustrated by a social situation that you wish there was some kind of red tape to guide it with.
Origin- Whitney Houston's Diane Sawyer interview, where Whitney requests Diane provide receipts for her allegation of over $100,000 Crack Cocaine purchases.

I am intrigued that the origins come from another very interesting interview.

And on a note of comic relief, John Oliver has a "theory" that this whole situation was engineered by Prince Andrew as a diversion. :duck:

... and whether or not you find the joke funny, there is this: Oliver works for HBO, but he said it while appearing as guest on Stephen Colbert's show, again on CBS. Colbert also worked his entire monologue around the interview last Monday, mining every word for comedic value, although in his case it mostly seemed to be a fan-boy celebration of Oprah herself, and not much about her interview subjects.

This morning we get Gayle King, again on CBS. It seems to me that CBS has decided that this story is the network's proverbial Golden Goose. Prepare for this bird to get VERY old & tough before they finally cook it.

Or before we choke on it.

This. I'm surprised they even talked to him on the phone. I would be insisting on only in-person conversations at the palace with multiple witnesses from now on. And Meghan is whining that no one is calling her? GMAB. "Oh, the unfairness of it all, they aren't being nice to me..."

I was wondering when below was going to happen. The Sun has moved their Meghan/Harry blog, at least for below article, to the 'celebrity' category. And not the 'news' section where the other royal news normally is.

I also wonder when / if other newspapers will follow.

I never once said the toxicity went one way. Or was only directed at M&H. I said there are reasons why some family relationships aren't worth mending. And even though I have some empathy for M&H, I've never said I support them blindly. Nor fully.

But wow, you all were quick to jump on that one.

We all jump on that one because in the end it's the future of the family that matters -- as in any family. The interview was absolutely unnecessary to fix a dysfunctional family -- if anything it has made it more dysfunctional. If Prince Philip dies in the next few months, does Harry attend the funeral or not? If there is another wedding, do the cousins get to hang out with each other or not? When the adults can be civil with each other, it makes it possible for things to actually get better.

Far from making things better, they have started a witch hunt to find the racist in the family based on one comment said by one person but that has been blown up by Oprah to characterize the entire RF, the entire British press, and the entire country to be racist. This is probably going to have an effect on the Commonwealth and the causes that RF members support -- like Princess Anne who has been president of Save the Children for like 40 years. Does she now have to prove that she didn't say anything wrong in the past in order to have credibility? They even damaged their own credibility and their own causes by making statements that are verifiably false. They literally didn't take time to amplify their own causes which remain completely vague other than rescuing chickens.

Maybe they had grievances, but I fail to see how any of them couldn't have been dealt with better privately. But because of the interview many people now have reason to be angry at them.

When famous people like H&M speak on a widely watched venue like they did, they invite attention. With that attention there are consequences, like being portrayed both in a positive and negative light. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. only exception is making organic pancakes.

That is actually very funny.

Case in point on CBS -- they seem to be working the interview into every possible story...like this one that is really about how some people may be struggling with the loss of a mother or grandmother on Mother's Day, with instagram posts of pictures that the little royals did for Diana.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/prince-william-kate-middleton-princess-diana-mothers-day-cards-granny/

Rather than discussing that issue, over half of the article is about the interview, which is sad because a lot of mothers and grandmothers have died in the UK in the past year. The pictures were cute though.

Because we really really need to hear more about the interview. “Play it again, Sam.”

I remember way back in the day when I loved to watch Oprah. She and Gayle did a road trip series of shows that were hysterical. Oprah had her cocker spaniels that were so darn cute and I loved when she would show them. That seems like such a long time ago. They have both jumped the shark in my book. I won't watch anything they do anymore.

Signing off on this thread. It's been great to share thoughts about this sad and infuriating situation, but at the end of the day this issue is simply aggravating and I'm tired of thinking about it. I so wish that M&H would just fade into obscurity like they claimed they wanted to, but we all know that is unlikely to happen, unfortunately. I'm very tired of hearing about them. I've said all there is to say on this matter, and now want to also stop talking about them and thinking about them. Peace, everyone. I've enjoyed reading your comments.

I think I'm done with it too. I started to read the thread and was surprised to see the amount of anger and vitriol expressed towards them. I apparently have better things to do than worry about them so I'll be on my way as well. You all have fun here.
