Is it October yet? Rob and Stacy's excellent adventures in Disney. NEW 11/25 - pg 4

I'm just north of Austin! :)

Good morning on this beautiful day! Someone forgot to explain to my puppy about daylight savings time!

Are you up in the Round Rock/Georgetown area? We are in South Austin, but I go up north a lot for work. Always nice to know there are more Disney lovers like me around here. :cool1:

Alright, I see it is time to get the ball rolling on this trip report. I wouldn't want Sarah to eat all of Gregory's candy before she gets any details or anything :rotfl:. So, off we go.

Because we had such a diverse group, we were all arriving at different times. Lisa flew down on Thursday and had Thursday evening, all day Friday, and Saturday morning on her own. Amber and Cindy flew down Friday night. Rob drove up Friday night and stayed with them. I believe the 3 of them headed to Daytona on Saturday so Cindy and AMber could see the ocean. I was the last of the group to arrive, I didn't get down until Saturday afternoon. I can't give you details of their arrival, but I can certainly tell you about mine!

My trip actually started with 2 stress dreams the night before I left. The first one had me living back in the house I grew up in (my parents don't even live there anymore, having sold the house and "retired" to the lake.) For whatever reason, in my dream we were all sleeping in the basement. I "woke up" when the overhead flourescent lights (which never actually existed) started shattering. I woke my parents up and just then, the house caught on fire. We ran up from the baement, called 911, and then ran out. As we were leaving, I said to my parents "Well, I'll never make my flight now. I"m going to miss my disney trip."

Once again I "woke up" from that dream and looked at the clock. The clock said 5:50 am. What?? My cab was supposed to pick me up at 5:30am. How did I oversleep? Then I heard a knocking on the door and opened the door to the cab driver in my bra and panties :scared1:. Then I woke up for real. And it was 4:44am - one minute before my alarm was set to go off.

Oh, what a way to start the day. But hey, I'm going to Disney so it can only get better, right? I get ready, pack the last minute things, and head downstairs to wait for my cab. Of course, I was, in my head, completely ready to be in Florida where it was hot so I was dressed in my park clothes - t-shirt, coolotts (how DO you spell that word?) and tennis shoes. I was FREEZING in St. Louis. Oh cab, hurry up.

By 5:35, I got worried so I made a quick call to the cab company. Don't worry the cab is on its way the nice man tells me. Ok, no problem. The cab finally gets there at 5:50 (was I pyschic this morning?) and off we go. Because he knows he was running late to pick me up, he drives REALLY fast to the airport. And he was really chatty. I am NOT a morning person so I'm not sure I did more than grunt but I know a lot about this man and his life.

Check in was a breeze and I am through security and waiting at the gate by 6:30am. Everything was running on time and we are off to Atlanta exactly when we should be. The first flight was fine. There were 2 men sitting a row in front of me who were hitting on one of the flight attendants. I spent most of the flight laughing at them as they turned around to find her and made up reasons to have her come talk to them. I also heard them ask her to join them for coffee in Atlanta. I kind of wish I knew what ended up happening there.

I hate the Atlanta airport.:headache: Too many bodies, too much travel stress, just too much. Even the people who work in the airport seem to be stressed and unhappy. My second flight was oversold and they were asking for people to voluntarily give up their seats. Not going to happen my friends, I am on my way to Disney!!! As we are boarding, I heard the gate agent going over the rules of carry-ons one more time and she said "Don't even try to bring more than 1 carry on and 1 personal item. If you have more, have your credit card ready and I will be more than happy to take your money." I thought she was making a joke and laughed. She was not trying to be funny and didn't appreciate my laughing.:confused3

The flight was pretty uneventful and pretty soon, I was landing in Orlando!!:yay: I practically skipped down to ME. Then I got confused for a minute by the new proceedure. I don't have to stand in line at the counter?? Ok. I showed my documents, got in line for my bus, and was on the bus and on the way to Old Key West in less than 10 minutes!:woohoo:

It wasn't long before I saw this -

I was ready to go. I was meeting Rob to check in to our resort, Lisa was picking us up, and we were going to be at MK by 4:00. The vacation is off!

Up next: Did Rob make it to check in? Were we at MK by 4:00? Did I mention it was surface of the sun hot????

Hiya!! I know what you mean about your puppy not getting the memo about DST. My two kids didn't get it either! :rotfl:

I'm in Pflugerville, technically. South Austin seems so far away !! I make it down that way when heading to San Antonio but that's about it. There's so much available up my way now, we don't head into Austin much anymore.

Glad to see another Austinite Disney freak on the boards, and I mean that in the best possible way! :goodvibes

I hate having those dreams! I've already started having them for our December trip...:rolleyes1

Glad you made it safely. :thumbsup2

Denise

You've totally sucked me in already!

(BTW, I think it's "kulots." Why this piece of information is in my brain is beyond me.)

I hate those dreams too. I usually don't have them because I usually don't sleep the night before I leave. However, now that I have had to get rid of all caffeine in my life, I fall asleep by 10 or 11pm every night and have plenty of time to dream. It's starting early for you though. It's going to be a long time to December!:scared1:

:welcome: Glad to have you along for the ride. And I think you are right about the spelling. Isn't it weird the random information we store in our brains?

I'll write it and I'll include the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Wait... am I the good, the bad, the ugly or all three?

I'm on board for this ride. Hold on tight. This here's the wildest ride in the wilderness!

I jumped on today, can't wait for the next installment. These TRs are addicting, I have read several & enjoyed them all. We were in Disney Sept 16-20, also very hot!

BTW, it's culottes.

Welcome to my insanity! The next installment will hopefully be coming out later this week, but it is gala week here at STAGES. Busy, busy, busy. Hopefully I'll have time later tonight but alas, I never know. Such is life in theatre.

Thanks for the spelling. I don't think I'll ever get it right. maybe I should just call them short pants?

Ok, this week's update my be later than I thought. It's gala week here at STAGES which translates to craziness. PLUS, there is a performance of TeamSTAGES (our youth performing group) on Sunday that I am now helping with. All that equals no free time to write. I promise to get an update out soon but it could be Saturday before I get to it. I hope anyone reading can hang in that long.

I totally understand. This time of year, I think everybody is busy with real life stuff. Don't work yourself too hard though.

I hope anyone reading can hang in that long.

You know my problem with patience. If I want to eat a foot-long chili dog, a turkey leg, a large diet beer and cotton candy at Fantasmic, then I don't want to wait in line for a diet coke. I get it from the dude who walks up and down the aisles.

But, if I have to wait for Saturday, I will.

When we last left this report, I was on the ME bus heading to OKW. Boy, was I ready to start this vacation!! I texted Rob to let him know I was on the way because he was supposed to meet me so we could check in. I also texted Lisa so that she had time to get out of the pool and get ready to meet us. Lisa was ready but Rob, Cindy, and Amber had decided to go to Daytona to see the ocean and weren't back yet but Rob thought he'd be at the resort by the time ME dropped me off.

I got to the resort and still no Rob. I checked us in and can I tell you how wonderful it was to hear "Welcome home." I've never stayed DVC before and I am hooked for life. And, since I am far too poor to buy in right now (I'm going to need a new car soon) I guess I'll be renting points for quite awhile. Anyway, we're checked in and of course, our room is fairly far away. I'm sitting out front waiting for Rob and I feel the first of the vacation frustrations set in. Now, before I saw all this, let me preface by saying I KNOW what I was feeling was unreasonable. I KNOW that this delay was no big deal. However, in the interest of fair trip reporting, it WAS what I was feeling at the time, so here is the ugliness, no holds barred. I was incredibly annoyed that I was sitting on a bench, waiting when we had the entire time table planned before I got on the plane. There was never a mention of a trip to Daytona so I had no idea there would be any kind of delay. All I felt at that moment was, I had planned to be in the MK by 4, it was 3:15 and I was sitting on a bench waiting. Yep, I was a pouty princess at that point.

Lisa volunteered to come get me from the bench, take me to my room, and head to the MK. I said no because, since I had both keys, Rob wouldn't be able to get in the room. In hindsight, I'm sure it was some of that but a lot more of it was my martyr complex - even though it wasn't in my best interest, I was sticking to the plan. Of course, the only person I was hurting was myself but there it is.

It wasn't much longer before Rob pulled up. He had gotten lost several times getting from Cindy and Amber's resort. It was great to see him and I tried to let my unneccesary anger and frustration go. It was time to start this vacation!! We headed to the room and it was beautiful. (And somehow, I have NO picture of the resort at all.) The only problem with the room was that the bathroom smelled strongly of pot. I couldn't believe it. The smell lingered for the entire trip too. In fact, every time I got out of the shower, I got the munchies. :) Rob and I think the smell came from the room next door. We never saw anyone come in and out of the room but the "Privacy Please" sign was ALWAYS on the door. Rob told me on our last day that he finally saw the couple and they were in their 80's. Umm...good for you guys I guess.:confused3

Rob and I were in the room just long enough to put water, soda, and beer in the fridge and for Rob to trash the room. Ok, that's my phrase. However, Rob has a very unique way of packing. He never uses a suitcase. Everything was packed in a duffle, some reuseable shopping bags, and some plastic Publix bags. And there was no rhyme or reason to how stuff was packed so he had to dump out every bag in order to find whatever he needed. Lisa showed up shortly after that and we jumped in her rental and headed to the MK. And that's when we hit the next snag. And once again, I felt some frustration.

Cindy and Amber were staying offsite. AND they didn't take any time to learn the shuttle schedule. They called us as we were getting ready to go and said they had missed the last shuttle of the day to MK and didn't know how to get there. So, Rob had to look up a bus schedule and route them to the MK BUT it was going to take them an hour or so to get there. ARGGGG!!!! I was supposed to be in looking at the castle by 4. This was NOT going to happen. And of course, we couldn't head in without them because they had never been and would never find us. Oh, and did I mention it was surface of the sun hot???? Yep, this vacation was not getting off on the right foot. But, I was still heading to the happiest place on earth so things were going to start looking up, right? Right???

And that's where I'm going to leave you for this update. Coming up next: do I actually get into the Magic Kingdom? Do I ever let go of the frustration of the day? Stay tuned!

I think you did a very good job of letting the unnecessary frustrations go. I was just glad to see you after... how long had it been? A YEAR? Too long!

I do have a unique style of packing, don't I?! It's so if I ever lost anything in the room, I'd never know, so I don't have to stress about. Duh!

Man, I hope you make it to the Magic Kingdom by 4!
