Is it necessary to "link" ADR and DDP -- other than for prepaid meals?

The title says it all...

Other than places like Cinderella's Royal Table, which requires you to prepay, is there any advantage to linking your resort reservation and dining plan?

If I have an ADR, I can use my DDP credits no matter what, right?

I realized that I didn't click that "little link" to connect the two when making my ressies until I went to make one for CRT. Then I noticed the link!

Any reason to go back and cancel my ADRs and relink them?

No, you don't need to link your DDP to your ADRs. However you choose to pay for your meal is up to you at the time of payment.
