Is it me, or... (small Disney Channel vent)

Is it me, or is Disney Channel a little out of control with promoting Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and a handful of other teen poptarts? Yeah yeah yeah, I know we should just watch less TV. And no, I'm not really saying there's anything wrong with these kids. I'm not even saying Disney Channel sucks because of it or that it makes me mad. It's just...well...soooo much! Anyone else notice?

I have noticed more of Demi on lately than usual. But what is killing me (making me laugh) more than anything on disney is that it seems like every one of their actors/actresses seems to "sing". Is it a requirement to sing to be a D.C.Star?? I dont even think Tiffany Thorton can sing (she mostly "talked" through her song), but they had her doing that Hatching pete song.

I just wish that the Disney Channel could be what it used to be..Now it seems to be more of a promotional tool for the teen pop starts than just a channel for the entertainment of children. I hate all of the shows like Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Wizards of Wavelry Place, Hannah Montana etc. When I think Disney I think of all the old cartoons and Mickey Mouse Club etc. I don't want to hear about boyfriends, girlfriends, who kissed who, and all that mess!!!!

Oh my YES! lol I feel that way, those Disney 365 commercials are on all the time, and honestly we rarely watch TV!

I think you are right...it seems like they are desperately trying to find another Hannah Montana. And all these teeny bop shows sometimes make me think we are watching Nickolodeon....we turn when Phineas and Ferb are over!

ITA and luckily my dd's are outgrowing Disney Channel. I miss the days when shows were about regular people. Now every sticom is about someone who is a pop star, cooks for the president, can perform magic, lives in a cruise ship, stars in a sitcom on the sitcom, can see the future etc

Just a few years ago we loved DC for the fun shows and cartoons, we love Kim Possible. Lizzie Maguire -was a favorite = regular kid, regular problems and consequences from her parents for breaking rules......

we turn when Phineas and Ferb are over!

Ditto. Thank goodness for Tivo. I rarely watch commercials anyway, but Disney Channel seems inundated with them lately. If it weren't for Phineas and Ferb, I don't know if we'd ever bother with it.

Huge Phineas and Ferb fans here (FYI MONDAY IS A MARATHON!!!!). My ringback tone is the Beach Song (LOL).

We love Playhouse Disney though!!!! To the person who compared it to Nick I have to agree sometimes. Though Nick has some really horrible shows sometimes. I really despise their morning lineup for the kids (Yo Gabba Gabba actually scares my youngest) with the exception of the backyardagains (sp).

For as much as I love Disney, I haven't watched any show on the Disney channel in about 10 years. My kids don't watch it because watching horrid acting and cheesy script writing only makes my son more dramatic and gooberiffic when he's hamming it up. Which is all the time lol.

I must say that I have recently discovered Phineas and Ferb and I *love* it. It's right up Ds's alley while innocent enough for me to stomach. :goodvibes

Whew, do I feel better after reading through this thread! I thought I was being such a scrooge by not being on board with the tween/teen shows. My little boys love the DC, but I won't let them watch any shows about teenagers. We have enough drama in our lives already, we don't need teen angst at 5 and 2 years of age!

I completely agree with you guys. I am getting a little concerned that zach and cody are scratching their butts on TV, or Jackson using Hannah's bra as a shower holder. I mean I think for our young kids watching these shows, that is a little much. My daughter loves hannah montana, but I had to cut her off from watching it when one day she said "rule setter momma say what?" to me. Aparently this is what Hannah says to her dad. Yeah I will not have my child talking to me like that.

Yes yes! Again, I definitely take full responsibility for what my children watch, so I'm not blaming Disney for my kids' corruption or anything (LOL - that was a joke) but I really feel like DC's focus is tweens. To their credit, that's a niche that only they have been able to fill in a reasonably good way. Even though Wizards of Waverly Place annoys me beyond belief, it isn't terrible. I wouldn't have a problem with my tween watching it. I just am not thrilled about it for my six year old. And if she's watching Playhouse Disney, she's still inundated with it because promos for that show and the others are on about every 45 seconds.

And I'm cracking up about how every poptart on DC has to sing! LOL!!! So true!

Thanks for making me feel like I'm not nuts!

I noticed that as well and the singing thing as well. I dont watch DC anymore because the promotional stuff drove me nuts. The only thing me and my baby sister watch is Disney XD for Phineas and Ferb. On DXD I dont see any commercials for DC stuff, but I DVR/TiVo it so I dont watch commercials

My baby girl says that all the time but she says "Hannah Montana say what say what?" It's funny because she does it at awkward times. I'll repeat right back to her. I have to admit the new episodes of Hannah Montana we watch on Sunday nights. Me, mom, and my baby. It's addicting. We Love Phineas and Ferb. Perry is so awesome. I can't stand Zack and Cody (they were so much cuter in that Adam Sandler movie, Big Daddy, now they are all grown up and it makes me feel old), I can stomch Wizards of Waverly Place. Don't really like that new Jonas Brothers show.

The thing is my parents watch kameryn during the day and they find Disney "approriate" for her. I guess because it's "Disney." :confused3

Yes but everyone on disney has to sing. It's a job requirement. I noticed it got worse after High School Musical came out. Those Disney 365 commercials bug the crap out of me. They show them so much, My baby has the dialog down and can repeat it.

I'm going to be the only one to say - it doesn't bother me. Honestly here we have at least 3 different Disney channels, 1 is geared to the toddlers - Handy Manny, MMCH, Imaganiation Movers, etc. another is for the younger kids with Phineas & Ferb, Lilo and Stitch and then then Hannah Montana and such after 4. The third is DisneyXD for tweens with the annoying shows Jimmy Two Shoes, Static Schock, Monster Buster Club, etc. (I looked the shows up on the list - we don't watch them all!!) There's enough on that if we are going to watch DC then we can find something appropriate.

DD likes Hannah Montana, Sonny with a Chance, and Wizards of Waverly place. She also knows that it is just tv, and that just because she sees it on tv, it doesn't mean she can say it, or do it too.

I like that the actors on these shows can sing, dance, and act. It's a throw back to actors/actresses like Judy Garland, Debbie Reynolds, etc. that could do it all. No, I don't think these newcomers are on the same level as those icons, but it's nice to know they at least they are good at what they do and well rounded - at least in their job. ;)

And what happened to Jojo's Circus and Higgly Town Hero's...:confused3

Will Jojo be disappearing from H&V too ???

We miss Jojo...:sad1:

We have Tigger and Friends, Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse Club, Oso, Mickey again..., Handy Manny again..., Imagination Movers...
That's it for little kid shows...

I really, really, really miss the old disney channel.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with it. The channel was still pretty new then, and they used to show a lot of all of the old live action disney movies, esp. ones from the 60s and 70s. I LOVED all of the Hayley Mills movies (I actually just ordered one I remembered seeing as a child and loving from disneystore.com - The Moon Spinners - haven't watched it yet though). I loved movies like The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit. Ahhh I wish they still showed a lot of movies like that.

I also loved the New MMC when I was a kid. Loved Dumbo's Flying Circus. The Gummi Bears.

In my pre-teen years I loved watching Jett Jackson (I know they are showing this again on that disneyxd channel), bug juice, and the other shows they showed around that time.

I also saw a lot of classic mickey mouse cartoons.

Does anyone remember the Winnie the Pooh show from the 70s that had people dressed in the costumes and a narrator? It freaked me out a lot, but I still watched it. Heh!

I also remember when Disney Channel did not have commercials during the shows, only inbetween.

I really can't stand what they have turned it into (granted I am way passed the target age range lol).

OH I thought I was the only person who remembered those shows. I remember watching Dumbos Circus, Pooh, Adventures in Wonderland, Bug Juice, GUMMI BEARS (bouncing here and there and every where...) all of them. Man now I wish I could find them on DVD

No, you weren't! lol Disney Channel was my childhood! :rotfl:

I loved the Adventures in Wonderland show, too!!!

I don't know about the others, but I do know that some of Gummi Bears is on DVD along with some other classics from our childhood (rescue rangers, tailspin, ducktales). They have them on www.disneystore.com. I actually got DH tailspin season 1 for easter! he hasn't watched it yet though.

I also remember a show that I *think* they showed on disney channel (but I'm not for sure at all) but I can't remember the name of it. It came on after KIDS Incorporated (which I LOVED), and it was about this teen boy who like lived in some really cool room that was in a basement or something? He had a robot friend that looked like the robot from that short circuit movie who wore a hawaiin (sp?) shirt. I believe they would talk to the camera and have little scenes in between hanna bar bara cartoons. They also had time travelling guests some time. I know this prob. sounds crazy, but does anyone remember this show at all?? I have been trying to figure out what is was forever.
