1000.00 round trip for 2 seems so HIGH.
It was this price for around xmas - I get why that is high
and it is close to 1000.00 in early MARCH.
I used to fly from PHILLY, all seasons- 2 hours, no more than 400 for 2, why the big difference? :confused3

Anyone else from the DFW area seeing this?

I'd watch southwest. Fall fares are about $107 each way. Your Christmas fares will be high but if you watch you may catch a sale for March. Still kinda early. And with SW you can always take advantage of lower prices after you book.

We just moved to Texas from Iowa and are living between Dallas & Texarkana. I have been keeping my eye on allegiant air out of Shreveport. Right now they have their prices at around $100 R/T through the end of September. Their schedule is not out yet for March but if you are OK with a little drive, check that out. Also, they dont fly in to MCO but in to Sanford (North Orlando) so it may not work for you. Just wanted to throw it out there.

Airlines have reduced flights, seating capacity and the economy is somewhat better, so prices are going higher.

Does Allegiant only fly from Shreveport to Sanford on certain days of the week? We're looking at our vacation for October 2013 (yeah, I know it's a little early), and my DD25 will be flying in from Shreveport. We're staying in Orlando...hopefully Saturday through Saturday.

We are going Nov 16-24 and I had been watching airfare since Jan 1. Right now is the lowest price I have seen for our trip dates out of DFW and its still $420 r/t a person. I bought Southwest the first day there schedule came out and spent $280 r/t. Southwest does have good sales but they generally don't fall on prime vacation times as you would expect.

I have a Kayak alert setup so that I can follow prices daily (just to see how low they go and when) and then just check Southwest each day to make sure I am not due any credit. Our flight times were sold out for 'Wanna Get Away' fares two weeks after they opened the schedule so I know we did the best we could.

Spirit looks like it would be the cheapest option out of DFW, but I would look at other options personally.

Right now it is Sundays & Thursdays but their schedule is not out yet for that time of next year.

I know it's not out that time of year. :) Right now, we can either rent a condo from Saturday to Saturday or Sunday through Sunday. We're hoping for a Saturday to Saturday rental. But if my DD can get cheaper airfare from Sunday to Sunday, then we'll do that.

AirTran left DFW last November because of the SW merger and the Wright Amendment. Since then posts here have indicated fares have skyrocketed due to lack of competition.

That's an understatement. Air Tran and American were the only airlines to fly nonstop to MCO out of DFW anyway. Delta flies out of both DFW and Dallas Love Field, but has no nonstop flights and has always cost more. Southwest flies only out of Dallas Love Field, can't fly nonstop, and has always been higher than American or Air Tran too. American and Air Tran has always been the cheapest with Air Tran keeping everyone else in line. The normal airfare has always pretty much been around $210.00 r/t, but we have always been able to catch it $158.00-$198.00 r/t. I go to WDW 4-6 times a year and never paid more than $198.00. Once Air Tran left last Nov, airfare out of either DFW or Dallas Love Field has just skyrocketed. Instead of $210.00 the new norm is over $400.00. Last spring Spirit started flying nonstop flights to MCO out of DFW. Using a $50.00 off coupon, I was able to get airfare for both my May and Sept trips for around $148.00 (plus seat and luggage fees--so around $270.00). I still need airfare for our Oct 27th-Nov 4th trip, but despite looking every day, can't find any reasonable air fare. My husband is wanting to just drive this time, since we are going to need a car down there this trip anyway (to make a day trip over to Clearwater and to transport our stuff over to Universal for the last two nights).

As an example, I flew to WDW the first week of Sept last year and paid $158.00 r/t for a nonstop flight on Air Tran. Air Tran pulled out of DFW the third week of Nov. I had to find airfare for my Nov 27th-Dec 4th trip on American and paid $270.00 (plus luggage fees) for that flight. Just a month or so later airfare had jumped to over $400.00 and continues to hover around $400.00, other than an occasional price drop here and there that lasts just a day or so.
