Is it me, or does this girl look overdone?

Wow. I see stuff little girls are wearing and I'm taken aback, but this pic isn't so bad. I think she looks cute, and I love her hair! Her hair sets her apart and makes her unique and gives her a certain flair. The outfit is cute. I object to girls posing sexy, that one pic of Cindy Crawford's dd that was floating around here on the DIS a couple of months ago, now those were objectionable. These pics are fine and I guess I don't see where this girl is being exploited. I think she looks fun and trendy and cute, exactly how a young girl should look. :confused3

i agree. :)

Have you been to downtown Disney where they have that little beauty salon set up and they do the little girls with hair extensions and glitter and make up....it is all about the sparkle, and then they put the princess outfits on.....WOW!!!!!!!!! http://www.wdwinfo.com/downtown/marketplace/index.htm

I kinda wish they had something like that for big girls. How much fun would it be for us older girls to be "princess for a day"? princess: :wizard:

Since the ad idea is "glitter" I think it is OK. Her hair may do that naturally, or with very little help. She has make-up on, but what ad model doesn't? I know a young girl, she is 9, who looks a lot like this girl. (without the hair though) She is allowed to wear lipgloss on special days, but her skin is so pretty, it almost looks like she is wearing more. She got her father's dark eyes and lashes, so it looks like her eyes are done up too. But she is just the sweetest little girl. She loves to dress up, but also loves to go play football in the yard with her dad, brother and his friends.

I think some of the name calling is rude. What if a family member of her's comes to the DIS? It is not right to say she looks like a hooker. We would flame someone for calling a child fat, if she was in an ad, so lets not call this pretty girl names either.

any family member of a child who is being 'marketed' in a manner that members of the viewing public (or moreso as in this thread the target audience-the parents of children this age who purchase clothing from this company) may find to be age or image inappropriate should be ready to hear comments. advertisments are created to elicit a response from the viewing public-in some cases it is a rush to purchase to product, in other cases it causes public commentary.

calling a child 'fat' is commenting on a physical attribute that the child/parent may or may not have any control over whatsoever. calling the clothing a professional child model wears in a print ad 'prositute like' is commenting on the product which the child's parents have total control over deciding if their child will or will not promote.

there was a thread sometime back about a very young child actress simulating sexual scenes in an upcoming movie. while largely people aknowledged that the producers took great measures to ensure nothing inappropriate occured in filming, a large bulk of posters still objected to the image the actress would be portraying (and her parents decision to permit her to do so).

I have no problem with her hair. I think that it's cute and she's a very pretty little girl. You could put a sack on her and she'd be beautiful. I have a problem with the clothes. It's stuff teens would wear and she's not a teen. I hate that little girls are being pushed to look much older than they are. I really glad my DD isn't into that stuff because it is a battle I'd fight but not one I'd enjoy.

Oh, and as someone who's had thick cury hair her whole life I can sympathize with children who get teased. When you're young it's so hard looking different than everyone else.

I think there are limits, but I don't see that photo being anything close to objectionable. The advertisement is promoting the idea of "glittering" -- this is a concept that appeals to young girls. I don't see excessive mascara. I don't see deep red lipstick. I don't see fishnet stockings. I do see a purple bow in the hair -- which if any mature woman would wear I'd recommend psych counseling. :lmao:

Bicker...not that I disagree with you here but is there ANYTHING you're not an expert on? ;) From TV ratings to "glittering" to a number of other subjects you comment on...you continually amaze me with your expertise in such a wide array of subjects. :teeth:

I totally agree. Just because I don't usually deck myself out in fancy dresses, heels and glittery makeup doesn't mean I wouldn't like to once in awhile. :)

I smell paternity test...

:rotfl2: :lmao: That was my much needed laugh for today!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

She has on too much makeup for my taste (though I wouldn't mind if my daughter was wearing it at home), but I love her hair and I think the outfit is cute enough. I'm not sure I'd buy it for my daughter (that is, if I had one :teeth: ), but I don't think it's necessarily too old for this little girl.

OK, I'm the big DIS prude and even I am not that put off by that picture. IMO, she is wearing clothes that are too mature for her, but does not look like a hooker. And the skirt (or skort) is too short. (I wouldn't let my daughter wear it, but my jaw didn't drop.)

And the hair? Well, the girl has a lot of hair. Nothing wrong with that. Kind of cute and funky, IMHO.

I only read a few post...

She looks fine.. except her hair! It's big! My daughter would wear something like that. It's not like she have a lot of make-up. If she had make-up like JonBent Ramsey.. then yea.. it's too much.

Pretty girl. I don't like that she's wearing make-up, I think it's the hair that's making her look more "mature". I would not say she looks like a hooker. :confused3

Dd (7) wears skirts that short, she has an endless supply of those biker shorts from Gymboree that she wears underneath.

The style this year is to wear leggings with lace on the bottom. So the length of the skirt is what it is.

I am glad my child doesn't have that hair it must me a nightmare.

I'll be honest, to me it is not the hair or the make-up, both of which rival almost anything ever achieved by a Miss Texas USA Beauty Pageant contestent during the 1980's

and the outfit is really okay if you are into wearing purple fur :rotfl:

to ME, the "ad" is completely spoiled by the look on this girl's face which blatently reads

"HOLY HECK EXACTLY WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING?!!!!" If she knew who Dee Snyder was, she'd probably agree with the comparison. I can see it in her face. :rotfl2:

actually, kind of shows that she is probably one smart little girl as well as being awfully cute under all that crap.

I thought the same thing when I saw the ad. Too bad for CP.

Any one thing is fine...the skirt is fine, the hair is fine, the vest is fine...

But all combined the total look is a bit hookerish.
