Is it me, or does this girl look overdone?

Other than the hair, I think the she looks ok.

I think the outfit is cute and I'd buy if for my niece who is seven.

As far as the length of the skirt that can be solved with a pair of shorts under it in the summer. The rest of year you pair it with a cute pair of cotton, textured tights.

I don't have a problem with the outfit either. I'm pretty sure the skirt is a pair of skorts. My DD has several pairs just like this. She prefers skorts over shorts, so it's what she wears all of the time.

I find it sad that this little girl is being compared to a stripper/hooker :sad2:

And I find it sad how we've sexed up little girls. To each his own I guess.

My DD has a friend who has hair that can pretty easily be done like this. Hers is SOOOO curly - can't get a brush through it. She wears it in a ponytail 90% of the time, but a little hair spray and gel, and this would be her.

NOT just you, Tressa -

When DD saw the flyer I asked if she liked any of the clothes, she said "EEEWWWW, MOM!!!" and rolled her eyes. She's 10. I had a girl just to do frilly.;) That dream went out the window by the time she was 3.....

And DEE.....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

OMG!! I got the flyer at home with the same pic on it and I said the same thing to my DH. What is up with that? She's probably about 6 and they are making her look 16. Why do people insist on rushing children, especially girls, through their childhood. They are only little for so long! There is pleanty of time for hair and makeup!!! I think I may have to complain to the Children's Place.

I think it's disturbing what is available for young girls in the way of clothes. I have only daughters. I've shopped at the Limited Too in the past. Recently, we were at the mall with my older daughter (18). We both commented on how the clothes in the windows look like they should be for HOOKERS not young girls.

It's this whole "girls have to be perfect, thin and beautiful " or they are not good enough for soceity. It's disturbing b/c that is NOT what we do to boys. I think we should be building UP our kids with character and teaching them they are to be valued for WHO they are NOT what they look like.

I think it's disgusting. My 9 year old recently said she thought she was FAT. And she is NOT !!!! It's that they are bombarded with this stuff all the time. On t.v. and on magazines.

OK. I'll be quiet now. It just hits a sore point for me.

If you take away the hair and makeup, you have a child in a skirt, long sleeve shirt, tights and a vest. What's wrong with that? :confused3

Take away the vest and I think it's a typical school outfit.

I agree - I think it's the hair that is grabbing everyone's attention. The hair is a bit much - I do agree with that - but my DD does have a friend who has hair that could easily be just as wild with just a little bit of scrunching. Her hair is really that tight of curl - it's long - and honestly, she gets comments all the time on how beautiful her hair is.

The outfit - I don't have a problem with it. Um - you see her hand - :confused3 I still say the skirt is really a pair of skorts. Those are so in right now and all over the place.

Since the ad idea is "glitter" I think it is OK. Her hair may do that naturally, or with very little help. She has make-up on, but what ad model doesn't? I know a young girl, she is 9, who looks a lot like this girl. (without the hair though) She is allowed to wear lipgloss on special days, but her skin is so pretty, it almost looks like she is wearing more. She got her father's dark eyes and lashes, so it looks like her eyes are done up too. But she is just the sweetest little girl. She loves to dress up, but also loves to go play football in the yard with her dad, brother and his friends.

I think some of the name calling is rude. What if a family member of her's comes to the DIS? It is not right to say she looks like a hooker. We would flame someone for calling a child fat, if she was in an ad, so lets not call this pretty girl names either.

BTW ~ As for the worry of the skirt being too short, it goes past her finger-tips and are skorts too. There is no worry about it "revealing" too much. My DD would love most of the clothes, and if I had the money, I would get her some of them.

Your right about the skirt being skorts. Here's a link and if you click on other views you can see it's the same item.

Waaay too mature and overdone.
I don't have a problem so much with the outfit, we wore skirts shorter than that in the early 70's but it is the aim of the outfit. there is nothing girlish about it, it is very adult orientated. Put a cute short skirt on and a girlish top and vest and it would be ok not an outfit that would be appropriate for a college age girl.
I do have a problem with full makeup on any child even models! I understand the need for base so she isn't washed out in the lights but does she really need eyeliner and so forth? They were not trying to "make her look 9 they were trying for 18, make up artist are good enough to know the difference.

When I look at the hair all I can think about is how my Mom would complain to us how our hair looked like a rats nest and chuckle at what she would say to that hair. My Sister had hair that would do that easily when she was a child and believe me my Mom somehow found a way to not let it look like that. Wonder how many days of gum you could hide in there, along with your pencils, phone, lunch money, etc. Very practical hope nobody short sits behind her in school.

I think she is very cute. I see nothing objectionable about the picture. The whole point of advertising is to draw your eye. If she looked like every other kid on the street, no one would take notice. I doubt very much she goes to school looking like that.

Im not a fan...she looks too old and like she needs some conditioner. :confused3

Wow. I see stuff little girls are wearing and I'm taken aback, but this pic isn't so bad. I think she looks cute, and I love her hair! Her hair sets her apart and makes her unique and gives her a certain flair. The outfit is cute. I object to girls posing sexy, that one pic of Cindy Crawford's dd that was floating around here on the DIS a couple of months ago, now those were objectionable. These pics are fine and I guess I don't see where this girl is being exploited. I think she looks fun and trendy and cute, exactly how a young girl should look. :confused3

I am certain my six, soon to be seven yr old niece would love this outfit. And she'd look cute as a button in it too, not like a mini-hooker or anything. I think it's just the hair that's making everyone wild here. And I have to say, I would have done the hair differently for this ad, it does age her I believe.

I'm pretty conservative overall but I guess I still think of girls at six and seven as little because I have no problem with them wearing short dresses or skirts. To me they are still young enough that it just looks like a little girl, not like an adult in a mini skirt. I know I put skirts that short on my dd when she was that age and didn't think twice about it.
