Is it me, or are summer resort prices noticeably higher this year?

Booked our 6 night July trip again this year (BWI deluxe club level access) with the 25% discount. We booked this last spring when the discount became available.

Is it me or does it seem unusually higher priced this year? Was there some kind of price hike for summer resort rooms? Just asking.

2017 rack rate was $876. 2018 rack rate is $926. That's around a 5.56% increase which is typical the last 4-5 years.

No, I agree...I saw that the Incredible Summer offer expired on 5/22 and it became available again on 5/23 but at higher prices for the Deluxes...For example, for my dates in July, the AKL was originally 283/night when the deal got released back in March; now its like 302/night for the same dates....I didn't notice a price jump for POFQ where I had ended up booking...

So the discount percentage changed when it was released again. OP asked about room rates which increased from last year in line with previous years.

Thanks for the replies so far. Also, we bought 7 days of park tickets -- apparently those have also gone up a lot for summer 2018?

It feels like being a frog in a slowly heating pot of water. It's been going up over the past few years, but it's just now that it really is feeling like too much. Anyone else?

I would guess that supply and demand enter in as well. There are a good number of moderate rooms gone period or just out of service for refurb, so people who would have normally booked those are potentially having to upgrade or downgrade if they want to stay on property. Less availability, no need to have discounts as steep as in the past.

Standard room at AKL in June is now $313 at the Incredible Summer rate, and $351 at the passholder rate!!

I use a travel agency that offers agency-exclusive rates (lower than the lowest Disney discount rates) for resort rooms. That helps a lot. Their park tickets are cheaper, too.

Until people stop staying in the bubble and paying those outrageous prices, they are not going to stop raising them.

It's why they go for the newbies that don't know any better. I rent a 2 bedroom condo with a balcony at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for $250/night and no parking fees.

Do they have decent Disney transport? No. But I'm saving enough money to rent a car vs. Disney prices.

Disney usually releases their room rates for the following year in the summer & they stay kept that rate for the year. However, this year, they raised the rates again, in Feb maybe? I know there was a thread about it & it was the first time anyone remembered them doing that. So, 2 rate increases on the hotel rates this summer. You're not imagining it OP.

Yes I agree - this summer is costing much more. We always used the passholder discount - this year I couldn't even get it - if so it was the same price or more. Crazy.

I don't think the shock is that they raised prices once per year.

I think the shock is that they've done it MORE than once this year.

People just haven't been paying attention. Disney has been doing that (very stealthily) in the parks for several years now. The prices of food and merch creep up a couple times a year. I've always noticed that hotel rates get higher the closer you get to the dates you are looking.

The only reason Disney raises prices constantly for everything is because we all keep going. They don't have to offer discounts as often or for as much because they are filling their parks, resorts and restaurants. If the economy goes south and people stop going, there will be better discounts.
