Is it just me, or do some of the pictures that get post on DIS drive you nutz?

The only shots that really drive me nuts are the ones where people use a flash on dark rides like HM and PotC.

When I see a picture here on the DIS that is one of those "awesome" shots I make a mental note of it, and try to recreate it. That's how we all get better.

That sounds like me - I do take note of a few shots that I particularly like and attempt to recreate them. I also look at shots that I like the composition of but are maybe have a technical problem or two and try to see if I can do better. But I'm certainly not bothered by seeing photos that aren't perfect.

Good grief, if every photo posted had perfect focus, sharpness, DoF, composition, color, etc, I'd really be depressed with my own work! It's bad enough that we are all able to cherry-pick our very best photos, it's easy to take, say, 5-10 photos out of 1,000 and manage to look like a halfway decent photographer.

I read that first post and thought - - oops, got to stop going to the Photography Board. My photos are for fun - but after spending way to many hours on the Photography Board - looking - reading - taking the hints given - I have my interest level in photography on high speed.

Thanks for all the posts that let me know I really do belong here and the learning curve is what this is all about!!

I love looking at photos and am glad people take the time to post. I don't mind if they are not "perfect", but instead just I enjoy them.

It was actually this board that motivated me to really start learning about photography, not just rely on point and shoot, then complain when they don't turn out how I want. Seeing the great photos people take here, learning that I am not the only one what has to take 1000 photos for a couple of really good ones, and just reading in general, have all helped. On the other side of it, now that I know some of it, I must practice. A good eye, a steady hand, and the knowledge of a good composition don't develop in a single night. So, I take pics when I can, read when I get the chance, and come here to get my fix while at work.

If you want perfection and mean people, go over to that site that does Reviews and has something to do with DP. The central focus of this site should never be forgotten... it is Disney!!!

I will admit that this used to be me before I came to the photography board (maybe it still is me who knows). When I would take a great shot it used to be just a whole lot of luck. Now that I have learned more and more about photography from this board...the great shots (or shots that I think are great) are starting to become some skill and a little luck.

My motivation comes from seeing myself improve and seeing others people's work improve while getting my other passion (WDW) in on the fun.

breaking the rules and daring to be different is how one develops a personal style, and that is what sets some of the greats apart from the rest..

Part of me wants to say, hey, theat picture is horrid, and you shouldt post it.

Part of me wants to say, that picture is too far away, too close, out of foucus, over exposed....bla bla bla.

interesting you should mention this...recently i saw an exhibit of a photographer's work in an art museum..her style was to cut off the main subject in various ways...totally against the "rule"
of actually having your subject inside the photo but it was really interesting work...so who is to say..and at that same museum they had some paintings that made me gag so again who is to say

I have been posting here regularly for a year now. Waahooo!

If I would have been treated that way when I first started posting I would have quickly lost my interest in photography and walked away wondering how many burnt cherrios they had found floating in thier cereal bowl that morning.

My interest has grown dramatically as have my skills (still a long way to go though) and it is all because of the amazingly wonderful, understanding, kind and generous people who post on here regularly.

NO ONE starts out with the skills of a professional. And not many who post here have a desire to be a professional. Most just want to have fun, share and learn about photography in a friendly, kind, accepting atmosphere.

And I know I am not the only one who is very thankful that this is exactly that type of place.

Ditto about these boards - - I am learning, learning, learning - not so much with the producing though! But everything I am learning here helps so much - thanks to everyone! Only three months to WDW and then I can really practice!

I think you do this board a dis-service. It's probably the only photography-related board I know of that truly welcomes both complete newbie photographers as well as those far more accomplished at their art. This board is the single source of inspiration that compelled me to go out and buy an SLR. If I'd gone to any other board, I would never have gotten into this past-time.

So, allow people to post whatever they want - no skin off your nose, is it? If you want "serious" photography and the c&c that can go along with it, there are dozens of other sites to visit where "real" professionals are literally sitting, waiting for the opportunity to pounce!

One thing that comes to mind and a few have touched on it slightly,,, This board is great at helping me or at least suggesting (not necessarily a direct suggestion) spending my money.

Heck, before I started coming here a little more than 2 years ago I had little ol' 3.2MP Canon PnS camera and a rarely used Nikon N70 film slr with 2 lenses. Within a matter of months (it didn't help that during that time we went to Disney and I saw a ton of people with new camera's) I bought a dSLR. Now I had been leaning towards that, but coming here help convince me that its the right thing for me to do. Since then (2 years in Jan) I have bought 5 new lenses, a new flash and lots of accessories.

Ok now no one told me to spend that money I did that on my own. But the education in photography I've had and continue to have while coming here has been invaluable. It has made me want to do more and always look to improve and help others improve. I think of this board as more of a photo club than anything else. Its a club that is open to eveyone. Only membership that is required it that you have to like taking photos and like Disney. Come in an stay. Come in and say hi. What ever your comfortable with.
