We are leaving WDW on Wed. for 4 nights at Vero. I keep hearing such positive posts about how much people love Vero. Being that we live in MD...I wonder if we would ever be able to come this far and NOT do a few days at WDW too. I know my kids are going to LOVE the beach and it would be hard for us to come all the way to FL and NOT visit the mouse. Just curious if others go to Vero and skip the Mouse. :scared1:

I have a feeling we will either go to HHI next summer or Vero for a week and skip Disney. :scared1: :scared1: I just wonder if I will feel that PULL to want to head to Orlando. :confused3

Thanks....

Well, my DH and I have gone to Vero for long weekends and plan to go for longer trips once we don't have to worry about the kids schedules (we are almost there) but I'm not so sure my kids could do it! I love to do split stays with WDW and Vero when we all travel together. It makes everyone happy. We are hoping for a beach cottage next summer for 3-4 nights before we head to WDW. You'll have to see how much your kids like Vero to see whether a full week there with no WDW would work.

A VB vaca without WDW is most definitely possible. We just got bacK from 6 nights at VB. No side trip to WDW. And we fly down from NY. Last year we did 3 nights at VB and 5 nights at WDW. Having 6 nights at VB was so much more relaxing. We'll go to WDW again but it was great to have a beach trip all by itself. I would not hesitate to repeat a trip like this in the future. Everything worked out perfect for us. We were even able to give away our chairs, umbrella, and boogie board to others who could use them at the end of our trip.

My DH has said the same thing. If we are going all the way to Florida, we are going to do Disney. If we are going to do the beach, he really likes the Surfside Beach area (south of Myrtle) and we can go there--it can be done in a day drive, about 13 - 14 hours.

Of course, now that we own DVC, I am working on convincing him next summer to at least TRY a few nights (3) in an OVIR at Vero. He only does ocean front and these rooms are the only ones that will give him an ocean view for sure. I have never done this and don't even know if I can book those at 7 months but if I can convince him, we might be doing it. I think that if he sees the resort, he will realize that we can do a short Disney trip and then a short beach trip every year!!!

We do a VB only stay nearly every summer. Usually of 1-2 weeks.

Of course no one in my family would even consider going to the parks in the summer time anyway.

DH and I have done it twice, but each time it was paired with another beach vacation. Once was Key Largo, and the other time Hutchinson Island.

Thanks everyone. I can't wait to arrive tomorrow at Vero. I guess we will figure it out after staying there. :thumbsup2

It was in the '80s when we were traveling to WDW with our kids, and I always liked to point out there was more to Florida than WDW. We visited springs, state parks, Wiki Watchee, Tampa area and more. However, these were always after the WDW portion of the vacation, usually 5 days there and about the same visiting "Florida."

My hubby actually said that last night, maybe combine Vero with HHI, and no WDW. I looked at him like he had 10 heads!

For us, it`s not possible. We love the parks, and the kids are still very young, and in love with the characters. I am not an ocean girl, so I need to be at the parks, so for us, no it would not be possible. Plus, we drive from Canada, so that`s way too far not to go to WDW.

Have a great time at Vero tomorrow, Tiger :)

If you had asked me 7 years ago I might say that it is not possible but after 10 years of WDW trips you get very used to the idea that the next WDW trip is right around the corner so you stop feeling like you are short-changing yourself if you skip it here and there.

I am not a fan of the vero+wdw trips. We do one or the other now.

You could stop at HHI on the way for 2 or 3 nights....then do Disney for a week then Vero for 3 nights. :thumbsup2 Of course that takes you back to SPLIT SPLIT SPLIT STAYS.

Okay I am ONLY willing to split from now on IF IT INVOLVES A BEACH SIDE TRIP with a week at Disney. Mark my words Tina.....:rotfl: this girl is NOT SPLITTING AT WDW ANYMORE unless we come for 10 days to WDW ONLY and can do a min. of 5 days at each resort. :rotfl2: Please remind me of this!!!

I would just be kidding myself saying i would skip going to WDW after one of our trips to VB. We go there first to unwind then off to the mouse house.

The only hard thing for me is the drive from GA to VB - it's long. I did it 2X last year, and missed breaking it up with a stop at WDW - not because I wanted the park , but because it was a way to break up the drive without paying for a hotel.

When we did the month in Vero, I thought we'd miss our WDW time, so I booked four short WDW excursions (4 days on the way down, two three night stays in the middle, and one night on the way back). I regretted the mid-month stays and won't do them again. I was happier at Vero and did not miss WDW at all. :goodvibes

:scared1:YIKES we are going to try and drive home from Vero to Maryland and NOT stop overnight. Maybe this is wishful thinking????????? We drove from MD to WDW in about 15 hours. Is this not going to work on the return???

It will add close to an hour to your drive up 95.

It is do-able, it's just hard to leave Vero and I find it less depressing to leave without a looong drive.
