I am considering planning a trip to WdW Christmas 2012. Just wondering if its more expensive to fly on Christmas Day.

TIA

Flying ON the holiday usually costs less than flying on the days right around the holiday. Most people want to get wherever they are going before Christmas.

Thanks..I was actually told the opposite by a TA. I would have thought it was cheaper.

I haven't flown anywhere on Christmas Day, but I have flown on Thanksgiving. It costs less than the days immediately before or after.

Check airfares for this December to get an idea.

Many airlines cut the number of flights available on Christmas Day. Most people travel the days before, plus there is not much business travel.

I just plugged in the dates for this year for Southwest and Christmas day and Christmas eve were about the same for all flights

The cost of travel for the days right before and after Xmas this year are simply staggering. My usual route is White Plains to MCO. I generally pay no more than $250 per R/T ticket on JB. This year that ticket costs almost $800. I will never book a trip over Xmas again. Prices have been this high all year. I've been tracking it since Feb.

I was going to do that for comparison's sake, but I don't know if it's a good comparison. Christmas this year is on a Sunday. Next year it's on a Tuesday. I'm not sure how that factors in to costs.

That's true, but if you look at the 2 days on either side of Christmas - I would expect Christmas to be the least expensive day of the 5.

**Just checked Kayak from Chicago to Orlando for this Christmas. Saturday (Christmas Eve) is the lowest priced day on which to fly to Orlando, and the day after Christmas is the most expensive.

I have tracked flights from MSP to PHX leaving MSP on Christmas day over the last 4-5 months. Back in August and September the going rate was about 310-330 round trip (returning on the 31st) with a low at one point of $289. Prices are now up to $450 round trip.

Your cost would depend on when you purchase. If you have a certain "buy" price in mind and see it, grab it.

Flying on Christmas last year saved me approximately $300 over flying a day before or after.

Flying right on Christmas day used to be dirt cheap in comparison to other days. That has changed over the last few years and now the differences are pretty minimal in most cases. They've simply reduced the number of flights to accomodate the lower traffic that day, and therefore they don't have to lower prices to sell all the seats available.

We flew on Christmas Day 07. We flew Spirit and didn't even get the cheapest flights and it was reasonable. (We were at bb practice and some parents went home and booked the flight right away so they got the cheapest...I booked after dinner and still got reasonable priced tickets).
ETA I did just look online and prices are really high for 2011...but prices are always changing.
