We just went in May and did the package thing out of toronto and it was wonderful with flights, me, POP, 7 day parkhopper etc, and the meal plan but the total came to just under 6,000.00 for dh me dd1 and ds8 not including spending money so now that I wanna go back I am wondering what all the talk about flying from the u.s is about. Can it be that different? Seriously...and who do you fly with and book it through? I am thinking if we went during a free dining period it may be worth it but otherwise??
Help? :confused3

Hi, yes it is much cheaper to fly out of Buffalo. That is not everyones preference, some like to fly out of Toronto for the convenience.
For example, in March, six(1 infant) of us flew out of Buffalo for $577 US. In January of 2005 we flew out of Buffalo for $367 US, all 5 of us. We fly Southwest. I book everything for us, from the websites. I haven't used a Travel Agent in many years.
There are many threads here that will explain it all to you.
Hope you had a good time in May!

I have to agree that flying out of the states is MUCH cheaper! We are going in September for the free dining because we will save quite a bit.. I was not sure if we should fly out of Buffalo or Detroit, but I ended up getting us- 5 of us, that is with one infant airfare roundtrip out of detroit for $470 US! :cool1: I was sooooo happy! That is out of Detroit because Airtran had a really great deal. And I think that Detroit ends up being a little closer for us anyway. I would guess that your last trip, a lot of the $6000 was airfare? When we go this time with free dining for 8 nights @ a value, 6 days in the parks, and airfare it comes to just about $2050 US. The free dining saves us around $800 I think that is pretty reasonable considering we are flying. I have never looked into flying out of the states before, so I just searched for US airlines on the web. Another thing that helped me was to go to the actual airport web site that you want to fly out of and it will have a list of all the airlines. This way you can check into all those airlines and compare prices. I also posted on the Transportation board to get feedback from others that have used the airlines ex. Airtran before. This REALLY helped me. oh and I just booked over the airlines website, but you can always call and book it if you are more comfortable that way Good luck :thumbsup2

Cool. info.
Our trip was 1050.00 for meal plan (daughter 11 considered adult) family 4
I think flights were probably about 1500.00+ of the cost.
We also stayed value (at POP century...which was fabulous actually)
It would be great to go sometime with free dining...if we could also go and save almost another thousand on airfare it would make it wayyyyy more reasonable.
Still....it was our first ever flying family vacation. (not including trips regularly to Ottawa/Deerhurst and overnights in Toronto) so it was fabulous.
Now I gotta get us some passports so we can do it again.
Is the free dining something that Disney does everyyear or ??

my wife and i fly out of buffalo 3 times a year to disney its so cheap we pay $800 or $900 for air , car and 6 nights at all star we have season passes for the last 2 years its so cheap to go .it costs about $450 to $500 for one flight out of toronto

We always fly out of Buffalo..not just for the price but it is a much easier airport to travel through. This year we booked our flights through WDW...we have 8 days at a moderate, 8 day hopper, free dining and flights for $2800 for myself, DH, DS and DD who is considered adult...we could have done the same package with a value resort for $500 less. We were looking into renting a cottage for a week and that would have been $1100/wk plus I'd be cooking, making beds etc....NO CONTEST :)

Definately book out of Buffalo!!

Here is my suggestion:

Book Southwest Non-stop with a Ding Fare (Sign up on their website)

Go to Disney Vacation Club Rent/Trade Board and book a Disney Vacation Club property (Beautiful and very different from the POP resorts)
If you book a studio which is least expensive, you still have a microwave, toaster, fridge and coffee maker in the room. This can allow you to eat at least breakfast in the room to save a bit of money. Also allows for snacks and other stuff you normally would not have.

If you plan on going to Disney for the next few years, go to ticketmania and buy the passes that give you 10 days in the parks and 5 or 6 water park visits for all of you. Make sure you get the non-expiry option and you have taken care of your passes for several years to come.

You will save a ton of money and have a great time!
