Is it appropriate to buy a bridal shower gift from the registry?

or is that just for the wedding presents and is the bridal shower gift supposed to be some thing "just for the bride"?

it is! A lot of people register for stuff and get more at the bridal shower than at the wedding as far as actual gifts go (rather than cash).

I got tons of stuff off of our registry at the bridal shower

Great!!!. Can I just order it online and have it shipped to her house? I would love to be able to just show up with a card and nothing else since the shower is the day after I come back from WDW.

I don't see why you couldn't. You could always run it by them before you went to the shower. I doubt too many people would care unless there were not enough gifts to show off at the actual baby shower.

In my region the entire purpose of the bridal registry is just for the shower! (People usually give cash at the wedding).

I'm sure the bride to be would love if you bought her something off the registry!

Bridal not baby. It's a little early for that. Hopefully next year though. ;)

Sure you can! I had lots of people do this :goodvibes

Absolutely! My SIL was actually mildly displeased when she got things that weren't on the registry at her bridal shower.

I agree with Nennie, we did the same in NY and I follow that tradition here in PA. Bridal registry gifts are for the couple and that's the only real gift given. I strictly give cash for a wedding, to help the new couple start out in life. It's like a giant pyramid scheme where every family takes turns helping the newlyweds out, and around and around it goes.

That's what I am used to in NY too, but down here they do things so differently that I thought I would ask rather than commit a social faux pas.

This must be the 6th or 7th thread about showers and weddings. They are not, IMHO, a chance to tell your friends and family what they must give you or face their wrath.

I may or may not give a gift off the registry. Sometimes there is nothing I could even afford on them. If they want me to come they will accept the gift I thoughtfully picked out and could afford.

If they thought my gift was unacceptable, so be it.

If the only reason you invite someone to an occasion is for the gift than just leave me off your list.

I will add that in different parts of the US these tradtions are quite different.

OP - it is OK to pick an item from the registry and have it shipped.

LOl, I was thinking the same thing - the registery is for the shower! I'd never buy something off the registry for a wedding gift! :rotfl2:
