Is It All Too Much Right Now?

With the old and new announcements, temporary DVC points rules, AP final decision, and all of the yet unknown, is anyone else thinking it’s just too much? Clearly many Summer reservations are canceling. The initial reopening we knew would have a lot changed and limited. What about those with Fall 2020 through early Winter 2021 reservations? I have to admit, looking at the AP language of park reservations for 2021, I’m nervous about even a year out. I definitely would not go now but, what if a lot of these limitations continue? Is it time to jump ship until things are more clear?

I agree that it is all too much, trying to figure it all out. On the one hand I love using my DVC points at the resorts, but if travel is going to put off even a year from now I wonder whether owning DVC is a good idea. Right now I've canceled my summer trips and am making plans for June of next year. Everyone hang in there!

If you're going to sell, sell now while the prices are still high.

Honestly, we just bought our two contracts (one points in acct in mid March, one in April—great timing, right 😂)...and not a day has gone by since that I haven’t mentioned to my husband that I wish we had NEVER done it. We haven’t even gotten in our first trip as I had to make the decision to cancel the first week of July so as not to have points go into holding since parks were important to us (which turned out to be smart). Now I’m worried about every single trip we have scheduled and the possibility of even getting into the parks for the foreseeable future. Yes, I know that parks aren’t guaranteed but we do enjoy them and they are a big part of why we purchased. Will we get to stay at Jambo House in November? Who knows? Will we be cut off from all food sources at BLT in Sept if they decide to give it to the NBA? Yes, no, maybe? It’s all been a great source of anxiety in an already anxious time and I know I don’t really need it. I would be lying if I didn’t say that I’ve thought about cancelling all of the reservations I’ve scraped together for the next year and putting both contracts up for sale. I just wanted to take my family on vacation for heavens sake 🤪

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear this. I hope you don't end up losing any points but this situation is such an anomaly and I hope none of us have to experience it again. In the long run, I think you'll be really happy with your purchase. At least, I hope so! Hang in there!

It’s a lot for many people. My retirement plan has been visiting Disney and since I just did that this year, I’m in a go with the flow attitude!

We closed on our first contract in April and planned on a November trip but are going in mid January instead. At first we let this get to us, but then realized it's a very short term issue in the grand scheme of DVC ownership.

If things are not the way we're used to for a year or two, so be it, we still have 30+ years of great family trips to look forward to.

I agree- it's definitely a lot to think about. (I hate admitting it to people as I know others are dealing with sickness, job loss, and civil unjustice and here I am fretting over my Disney trips/point allocation/flight changes). I've had 2 cancelled trips and have rescheduled a trip for November. Will it happen? Who knows but I hope so and know it won't be the usual trip but hoping that all the kinks will be worked out by then and knowing we will be going again in 2021 definitely helps ease the worries.
