I'm flying Song next Saturday and was thinking of doing the online check-in (and print out my boarding passes) but I was under the impression that if you have to check any bags that there's no point to online check-in because I'm still going to have to do curbside check-in to get my bags checked?

Anyone have any thoughts/opinions on this?

Should i just forget it? Or do I not even qualify?

I'm under the impression that you can only do on-line check-in if you have no checked baggage. Now, when we flew Song in August out of Logan, we had baggage to check. But, we used the kiosks inside the terminal. They were really easy to use and very quick. You then just move over a little and a handler tags your bags and you're done. It took only about 10 minutes, tops. For our trip in 3 weeks, my dd and I will have only carry-on, so I'll get the chance tof try out on-line check in. Have a great trip!!

Well, I just checked Delta.com and this is what they say:

What if I have baggage to check?
If you have baggage to check, check in online and check baggage using the speed and convenience of our curbside or kiosk check-in at most airports when traveling on a domestic e>ticket.

I guess it would just be a waste then to checkin online and then have to go to curbside checkin or the kiosk anyway. I won't be saving any time it seems.

I have done online check-in with Continental... what is invaluable to me is that I have been able to move my seats up closer to the front which I prefer. When I had baggage to check I just went to the counter they had designated, there was not a line there, and it just took a minute or 2 to print off the tags.

But I am sure it is different everywhere.

I don't know about SONG, but my experience with other airlines is that online check-in is worth its' weight in gold! Curbside check, or the luggage counters for those who just need to check luggage, are usually very small lines. I tend to fly NW, and every time I enter the airport and look at the huge line for those who did not do online check-in and compare it to the little line I have to wait in, I breath a big sigh of relief!

I did online check-in last Sunday for a Monday morning flight on USAirways, first time I tried it. It worked out great because I was able to move up from 14F to 6F. My flight was 7:45am, I didn't have to wait at the long line at the kiosk. I didn't have any luggage so I headed straight for security (which was another long line, who knew the airport was so busy at 6:30am?).

Isn't it easy......... We always do on-line check in with Continental(30 hrs) and US AIR(24 hrs). We do it at the earliest posssible time and get exit row seats(no kids-exit rows).

We always do carry-on only which makes it even faster..............right to security check points...........then right to gate.

I think the best benefit of online check-in is the ability to move seats (if they're available), as a couple posters above have mentioned. Regarding saving time...I've been using online check-in for most of my trips this past year and the amount of time saved is really dependent on the different airlines AND airports AND the time of day you're flying. I've been stuck in slow-moving curbside luggage lines, and breezed through other lines.

However, doing online check-in doesn't have any negative effects--i.e. it won't lengthen your baggage check time--so you might as well try it. Plus a lot of carriers are offering bonus frequent flier miles for the first time a passenger uses online check-in. So, I'll continue to use online check-in even though it doesn't always guarantee a speedier process. Plus, I'm a geek. I'll try anything online.

OK FOLKS I NEED EVERYONE'S HELP. I HAVEN'T FLOWN SINCE 1992 (UGH) AND IT WAS NOTHING LIKE WHAT IT IS TODAY. CAN SOMEONE TALK ME THROUGH THIS.

WE ARE FLYING OUT OF PHL (PA) USAIR ON FEB. 2ND. I PLAN TO DO ON LINE CHECK IN THE DAY BEFORE. WE WILL HAVE A "CARRY ON" BAG (AND MY PURSE) AS WELL AS NEEDING TO CHECK IN 2 OR 3 BAGS. ONCE WE ENTER THE TERMINAL WHERE DO WE GO?

THANKS!!!!!!

Technically speaking, for Song and Delta, you're not supposed to use online check-in if your are checking baggage (says so on the website). However, you can still do it even if you are checking bags, you'll just have to "check-in" again for you bags. So it won't save you anytime. It would just be beneficial to change your seat assignments early.

LAH check your bags at curbside check in just show them your receipt/itinerary from usair. if you have boarding pass find tv terminal and locate your flight and it will tell you your gate#. with your id and bp out go upstairs, thru security and to gate
