What kind of ice cream are you talking about? Deep Fried, freeze dried, ice cream cake? Can you(OP) give a few more details?( or anyone else that believes they know what the OP was thinking)

I don;t like mine hard, so I let it soften just a bit before dishing it out.

I like mine soft, but not melted. I've also noticed at some soft serve machines when they use an inferior mix, the ice cream is very, very cold and kind of like ice instead of creamy.

I like frozen custard. And yes, by definition that would need to be frozen. Unless of course I was just having custard, which is good, too, but not the same thing.

Ice cream is always very cold up here in the North East.
