Is Grandma a Princess or a Pirate? UPDATE 9/28! The Last Suppah! PICS!! Pg. 69!

Before I get started on all the drama caused by my mama :rolleyes1 on this here trippie, I thought I’d start off with the what for. You know…the why. The reason. The how come.

When I decided to go back to the world, I got the same question from those unknowing people in my life. You’ve all gotten it too…

“You’re going baaack? Agaaain? Why???” :rotfl2:

My own mother, who was joining us on this trip, asked the same thing.

“Why do you keep going back? Don’t you want to do something ELSE with your money?”

Well, ummmm…nope. And I’ll tell ya’ why.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you ever been to Seattle? To that neat little fish market on the harbor?
Yea, me either. BUT, I know you know what I’m talking about. :thumbsup2
The fish market where the guys throw the fish around, and you can “catch” your order as it flies through the air.
Well, the guy who runs that company/fish market put out a workplace training DVD a few years back and developed a program to create more positive work environments.
His philosophy is called the FISH! Philosophy. And the school where I work has adopted this philosophy.
FISH! is all about creating a positive and healthy environment based on four principals.
1. Be There: for your fellow employees, for those you interact with, etc. Just be there for those around you…show your support.
2. Make Their Day: make someone’s day everyday. Happiness breeds happiness.
3. Choose Your Attitude: you get to choose how your respond to things.
AND the most IMPORTANT: ::yes::
4. Play: have fun. Life without fun isn’t, well…fun!
The big boss lady arranged a presentation from the owner of the fish market. He came and shared his philosophy and his program, and how it can apply to all situations in life. I know it sounds corny…but it’s worked for us at work…mostly. Heh heh. But, FISH! is a great way to explain my what for.
#1-Being There: Pretty self explanatory. I’m a single mommy…most of you know. It’s Jon and I against the world. Check.
#2-Make Someone’s Day: Most of you know about Jon’s struggles. It is what it is. It’s a part of our life. We don’t dwell…but some days are better than others. Smiles are important. Laughter is important. Distraction is IMPORTANT!!! I’d give my left leg…or a Disney trip…to get that kid to smile and to make his day.
#3-Choose Your Attitude: All of us have things we deal with in our lives that are difficult. It’s our choice how we deal with it. We can sit and mope. OR, we can live life to the fullest. Grab the bull by the horns. Experience experiences fully!!! Do things that we enjoy, even when life deals us difficult hands. It took me a looong time to pull up my big girl panties and deal with what was happening in my life. Now, we choose to look forward and not back. I choose to enjoy every second with my son. And where can you do that more than at the Happiest Place on Earth??? :idea:
#4-PLAY SISTAH FRIENDS! PLAY HARD AND OFTEN! Life it too dang short not to have fun. HAVE FUN PEOPLE! Laugh. Smile. Play. Worry about the crappy stuff another day. But today…today we play. :cool1: There’s always tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

On the way back from our trip a few days ago, my mother told me she didn’t understand why an adult would enjoy going to Disney. WTH??? She obviously doesn’t get IT. When I asked her if she had fun, she said: “Well, I liked taking Lexie and seeing her have fun.”

Yea…life’s too short people. Play every single day. Enjoy.

And I hope you enjoy taking this ride with me. On this here trippie. That I took with my motha who still doesn’t get IT.

Thanks, Jen. I needed that. :goodvibes

As you were telling us the fish philosophy, I was thinking it sounds like the Disney philosophy, too. And a great reminder of how we should live our lives.

Today, esp, I thank you for these words of wisdom!

I've come to the conclusion that either people understand WDW or they don't. And you won't be able to persuade someone otherwise. I'm a fanatic -- can't convince me about any "overriding" negative thing about Disney (sure there are negatives but nothing to stop me feeling good about it).

I'm a little sad for those who don't "get it"...

I know the philosophy!

I worked at a bank in credit analysis and my boss there went by the Fish! Philosophy. When I started, we had a special pizza lunch with a viewing of the Fish video, and I LOVE those guys at the Seattle fish market!!

We watched it again when we had another new employee, with pizza again.

Our office was decorated with fish, we even had a real fish named Pike in one of those pretty bowls with the plant in it.

We also had an empty fish bowl and blank fish notes by it that we would write nice things about our coworkers, when they lived out one of the parts of the Fish philosophy, and whoever got the most at the end of the week would get a $5 gift card to the coffee shop, or a nearby restaurant.
Then we'd do the same thing over the whole month for people outside the department, and they'd get a "certificate" signed by us making them honorary Fish! Philosophers.
AND that's not all. There was also a $25 gift card to wherever we chose at the end of the month to whoever got the most compliments from the lenders we served. They all knew that we got rewards when they told our boss about nice things we did, so they all sort of "nominated" someone at the end of the month.

I'd LOVE if my current job did that!!

Sorry for the :offtopic:

You are SO right. If I knew I could take 2 week-long vacations a year, I'd make one Disney and the other something different every year. I just can't afford to do that yet!

How did Jon's Dr. appointment go :confused3

Call me and I'll let you know! It was not a nice day...:sad2:

Lovin' the fish philosophy :hippie: its so true.

Can't wait for the next installment:cool1:

I uploaded all the way to day 3 today...so if I can get my booty in gear, it should be soon-ISH! :teeth:

It's not off topic! I brought it up!

We also do things at my school with our kids. Every Friday is "Fishy Friday" and the kids all have t-shirts with fish on them. We teach them all the FISH! Philosophy and they earn daily character points. Once a month, we have a character assembly where the classroom with the most character points earns a prize. Very fun!
