Is Grand Floridian the best for a Disney Honeymoon?

Personally, with the construction next to GF (not sure when that is finishing), I would go with one of the other monorail resorts or WL if you want to be in the MK area. I personally prefer CR, but from a romance standpoint, Poly would probably be the better choice. You also have great transportation options at Poly. You can take a boat to MK, you can take the monorail to MK, you can walk to TTC and take the Ferry to MK, you can use the resort monorail to get to MK . . . it's just very convenient for people who like MK.

I should have read a little more closely that you wanted to stay in the MK area; guess that would rule out my choice of staying at the YC... ;)

I personally like the WL and the honeymoon suite. But then again, I am rather biased toward the WL.

I talked to my travel agent today, and she said that she always loves staying at the Polynesian Resort. I really want to stay at the Grand Floridian, but the construction and monorail closings scare me. I know that they will still have construction in May.

While we absolutely love the Poly, I would not be so sure that the construction will not be finished by May. I just read on the GF FAQ that a CM mentioned completion by May. Plus, I would imagine that very little construction would be happening by this point- probably more indoors work, painting, etc. There is no way to know for sure, but just wanted to give you a heads up i your heart is truly set on the GF.

That said, you do not want to constantly have to stress about this! Perhaps looking further into the
Poly is worth it just to be able to have that peace of mind.

I just returned yesterday from another stay at GF. I stayed in the main building, RPC level and actually had a room with a balcony facing the construction. I also rented a cabana at the beach pool right by the construction and still barely noticed anything even after spending two full days at that pool.

The construction is hardly noticeable and from an outer building that the OP is considering, it would not be noticeable at all.

I have stayed at every deluxe and DVC except for Poly (hate the theming since we go to Hawaii often) and I don't think anything at WDW beats the GF for romance.

The Yacht club is a very nice resort that is quiet, in an excellent location, and is what I would call, more adult in setting and would be perfect for a honeymoon. There is also a very neat wedding gazebo on the property. For the price of what you are paying at GF, you may be able to get a much better view for less at the YC. Either way, the YC and GF are both excellent resorts.

I agree with this poster. My wife and I honeymooned at YC and had a water view room. We loved it. My wife loves walking around the World Showcase at Epcot, and there are so many dining choices between the YC/BC and BW. You are within a boat ride away from Hollywood Studios as well. Also, there is always something happening on the Boardwalk at night. Whether it is performers on the Boardwalk itself, dancing at Atlantic Dance, or listening to dueling pianos at Jellyrolls. Make sure though that you put a request in for a full view of Crescent Lake otherwise you could be stuck with looking around a corner to see the lake.

I would also like to add my congratulations to the both of you. :)

Like goofy4prez I too missed your preference for the MK area. If you are really set on being near MK I would look at the Polynesian myself. If you can swing it, see what it would cost you for a Theme Park view room there. On our last trip in November of '10 we had a Theme Park View room in the Tahiti longhouse and loved it. Even though that longhouse is one of the furthest away from the Great Ceremonial House, the walk through the Polynesian grounds make it a very easy walk, and it really shouldn't take you more than 5-10 minutes at most. Also, you are within a 5-10 minute walk of the TTC which will allow you to take the ferry over to MK, or grab the monorail to Epcot.

I still prefer the Epcot area resorts, but I think the Polynesian is a bit more romantic with it's theme than the GF if you are staying in the MK area.

Wilderness Lodge is also a nice choice, although you are somewhat limited to your transportation choices there and it is a more isolated feeling. The boat ride from the WL dock to MK is nice and relaxing, and we never had an issue with waiting all that long for a boat. If you like an outdoorsy Washington-state type feeling this could be a good choice for you. If you want a view out onto Bay Lake make sure you ask for an inner courtyard view and an upper-floor. You will get some noise from the pool below, but the views in the morning are wonderful.

We did our honeymoon at the Wilderness Lodge in 2007 and loved it. No Honeymoon Suite, just a standard view room that was upgraded to an inner courtyard view. We particularly enjoyed the secluded feeling while still being close to the MK by boat. We also really enjoyed walking through the woods towards Fort Wilderness which we did almost every day. It was romantic for us. Also the WL is likely to be cheaper than any room at GF, which always helps. It is up to you if you find the theme appealing, but it was amazingly perfect for us.

My husband and I have been many times together, we have no children. Our favorite is the Yacht Club. It always seems quieter than the other resorts we have stayed at and there seems to be more adult and conference guests than families. Grand Floridian is beautiful as well, I dont think you could go wrong with either, but the Yacht Club is less expensive.

Then I say do it!

Even though he hasn't been there yet, what does your fiance think? Show him some pictures online and have him help you decide.

My vote is for Poly because I don't like the GF theming either. I know my fiance definitely doesn't like their decor either. Poly is like having two different honeymoons in one.. exotic hotel surroundings and then Disney during the day!

Our honeymoon is May 2013. We are booking next week, and I would like some opinions. My current choice is Grand Floridian garden view. Our budget doesn't allow for anything more expensive. Magic Kingdom is my favorite so I didn't want to have to be too far away. My fiance has never been, so I want it to be special. Does anyone have any other opinions on resort/room choices at Disney World on honeymoons within the budget of a garden view at Grand Floridian?

First of all Congrats on your upcoming wedding! As far as choosing a resort, everyone has their own idea of the "best" resort and the "most romantic"...honestly, it is all personal preference. Some people think that the Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are very romantic and cozy....myself I do not like a log cabin feel and do not find it romantic. I prefer more of a tropical feel, we love Caribbean Beach Resort and would love to stay at the Poly sometime.

I think the biggest things to look at when choosing a resort is budget and what appeals to you. If you can afford the GF you do have several options as that is on the higher price side of WDW resorts. You said you like Magic Kingdom and would like to stay closer to it. The Grand Floridian, The Poly and The Contemporary/Bay Lake Tower are all on the resort monorail track on MK grounds. All could be considered romantic in their own way. For example...I know some look at the Contemporary and Bay Lake as stark in design but if you have a theme park view sitting on the balcony watching Wishes could be very romantic.

I would really look at pictures and see what really speaks to you. Have a wonderful honeymoon wherever you choose!!!!!

congrats on your wedding!

one of BFs had their honeymoon last year at WDW. They stayed at Poly and loved it. Honestly-- I think you cannot go wrong with CR, Poly, GF or WL..

It sounds like you really have your heart set on GF-- I say go for it! If you end up at another resort, will you be wondering what it might have been like at GF? If the answer is yes, than by all means stick with GF!

We stayed at GF on our last trip (we lucked out with a 40% off pincode) and it was so nice. We had seriously the worst room view (ground floor, facing the back of the pool building) and I ended up having to take the squad to the hospital and I still think it was a wonderful trip!

good luck!

Totally agree with many of the replies. It's obvious you really want to go to GF and this is your honeymoon! You should get everything you want and more! ::yes::

Don't decide to stay somewhere else and then regret it when you get to WDW. Even if there is construction I am sure the resort is still great and everything you wanted!

Any monorail closings will affect the Polynesian also and Contemporary.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. My fiance and I are going to book the Grand Floridian. This is the one we kept going back to, and didn't want to not do it and then regret it. We will be back to Disney World, so we will have another chance to try other hotels. I really do appreciate all the responses. :)

The Poly doesn't have king beds in standard rooms, so I don't think it's a good choice for a honeymoon unless you can afford a suite.

I think the GF is a lovely choice for a honeymoon. Go with your instincts. Everyone has different preferences. I don't like the decor in the rooms at the GF, so that kept me from being a little upset that we couldn't afford it. We stayed at AKL in a Pool View room and LOVED it. That's what we could afford, and don't regret a thing.

Great choice, have a fabulously magical time. Be sure to walk the grounds and just enjoy all the places to sit and relax.

If you have a garden room, a great place to watch fireworks is near the Marina. :goodvibes
