Head out to California in 6 days and are totally excited. Got an easy question for ya. So, I've read on here to stay away from Disneyland on weekends because of the locals. So, is Friday considered part of the weekend? I ask because we want to go Wed., Thur., & Friday. However, would Tues, Wed. Thur. be so much better?

One other quickie, since I have my SoCal tickets, can I walk over on Tues. and get my 3 day parkhopper before heading in on Wed morning (bright and early)?

Generally the weekend would be considered Sat. and Sun. Since it is summer, crowd levels do go up. You may want to try the Tues.,Wed. Thurs. You won't miss out on the entertainment since it is every night (Fantasmic, Fireworks, etc.) The crowd levels will go up on Friday, but it is still better than Sat. and Sun.

I think you will be fine to go the night before to upgrade your pass. This is what we did when we upgraded to AP's.

I scanned the first two pages, but didn't see it. There was a thread started recently titled something like "What are the crowds like right now (ongoing thread)". You may want to try looking back a few pages to see if you can find it.

Crowds were much better this year than when we went two summers ago. By using FPs the only thing we waited a long time for was TSMM on Monday and Wed. And on Tues. the earthquake made the lines longer because of some rides being shut down and people not able to use their FPs ealier.

Relatively speaking, the attendance numbers have been down this year from previous years. However, it's Disneyland and there are people.

My advice: Go on the days that fit your schedule best, plan accordingly with FPs and other tips you can read here, and have fun.

P.S. Us locals really don't bite ... and we don't have cooties either. :goodvibes

Oh, I know it will be crowded, but I just don't want to be caught up in a mob scene. I've never understood people who will book just because one week is listed as a 5 and another a 6 on a crowd calendar. Either way, there's people and there will be lines!!

I've done DLR during spring break.... and never again will i make that mistake. It was my fault totally though, the year prior we had went and the California schools hadn't been let out for break, but that next year our break corresponded with theirs and it was unbelievably crowded. We managed it well though and still had a great time.

BTW, I love the locals. We have met many wonderful SoCalians on our trips out there.

I consider Friday as part of the weekend. We're a local and we only go on Friday nights!

yes, i think fridays are considered part of the weekend. during 'off season' i notice that friday hours are the same as saturday and sunday. have fun! :)

So does it go crazy busy on Friday nites? I'm considering calling and booking (if possible) another night at our hotel (friday nite) and then just leaving on saturday morning so we don't have to drive back to San Diego on Friday night.

sorry i can't say for sure, maybe someone else will chime in...but i would think that friday nights would be busier than wed or thurs nights...but probably not as busy as saturday and sunday nights....

When we went last year (Sept), the park started getting more crowded Friday after 5. It seemed as if quite a few locals were coming out for the evening. It was really crowded by fireworks time. I don't know if this was just because it was "off season" or not, but I would think that it would hold true for anytime of the year.

Monday felt not too crowded to me and we hopped back and forth between parks several times. But the evening was packed! I don't know if it was locals coming in the evening or people just hanging around in the street waiting for the fireworks or both.

We really try to avoid Friday and Saturday over any other day of the week. I often think Friday is busier than Sunday, especially in the evenings.

Fridays are therefore usually our "last day" in the parks for our longer trips, when we should have everything "done" that we want to see.

We have arrived a couple of times on a Friday evening. It was really icky, only because the lines were long and fast passes all gone or return times like at 11:30PM. It just wasn't worth it IMO.

IMO Friday days do not have weekend-like crowds but Friday nights are weekend-like because many local AP holders drop in for a few hours on Friday nights. If I was there high season I would avoid Fridays altogether. If it was not high season I would use Friday day for rides (lower crowds) and Friday night for entertainment (fireworks, Fantasmic, etc.)

I think Fri. tend to get crowded but not until later in the day (when the locals get off work and such)...I would think that if you got there early it wouldn't be too crowded until later in the day. Either way, do what fits your schedule best. I'm a local and know a lot of people with AP's and they tend do go later in the day or evening.

I've been to Disneyland a few times during non-summer months on a Friday. The crowds are pretty light in the morning, but tend to pick up much later in the day especially around evening hours on account of the aforementioned locals who head to DLR after work.

If Friday is your only option to see the fireworks and Fantasmic if running, it's worth going since the fireworks really are that incredible. They must be seen from inside Disneyland around the hub or on Main Street to be properly experienced.
