Is food that goes through baggage xray safe?

Yes, it is my "under two week panick mode" setting in, but at 8:00am this morning, whilst resting in bed listening to the rain come down outside :( . I thought this thought, "OMG... Do they use extra strong xrays in baggage? What about my food box?".

Now, keep in mind, I am not shipping down the whole grocery store, just some PB & J, cereal, soymilk and lemonade. So... will we be safe or should I just do it at the grocery stop?

Thanks!

Karen

It should be ok, but, I would eliminate the hassle of packing it and buy it when I got there.

We have ended bringing food, except for flight snacks. With all the new security it is less hassel. We always rent a vehicle and make grocery stops when we get there.

I could be wrong but I thought safety of the food was not the main issue but some food seems to have qualities that will trigger a search. I thought I read it was certain consistencies such as peanut butter or chocolate. We are also not chancing anything and will now just make stopping at a grocery store part of our routine.

That's exactly what I read (except I also heard that cheese is of the right consistence). I've read that under the xray, those foods can look like plastic explosives, so they will do a search of the bag. Another thing I have read is that some airports are using explosive sniffing dogs and food in the luggage causes problems for the dogs.

These are all very good reasons to shop on the way to the resort. Like I said, I only have a few items, so it will only add another 10 minutes onto my stop...

Thanks everyone!

Karen

Read that several people box these food items up and send them via mail. Thought that might be easier and would limit grocery spending to perishables, like milk.

If the food in my checked luggage triggered a search, it wouldn't bother me at all. I wouldn't mind them going through my bags of potato chips and Oreos.
Is there a reason why I should be concerned about having my food bag searched?
