Is Express Pass needed for week of December 11?

We will hopefully be going to Universal for two days the week of December 11, and judging from the crowd calendars the park is listed as below average crowds during that time. We thought about staying onsite to take get the express pass for our stay but as it is so expensive, I am wondering if it is necessary if the parks aren't as crowded. We have not been to Universal in about a decade so I am not sure what the wait times are like. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Weekdays? Weekdays should be okay, weekends will be busier. Weekend may also have an Orlando Informer Meetup, which would mean Fri/Sat you can't hang out after the parks close and slowly meander out, and may not be able to join Hagrids line right before park closing.

Especially if you're planning to use single rider lines, you should be okay without EPs.
