Is DVC worth it for our circumstances?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but we are seriously considering DVC membership, particularly with the current special offer.

However, our number one preference is to stay at The Grand Floridian or Polynesian Resort. We've been to WDW four times now, and every time we have stayed at either of those resorts. With our young children, the easy access to the MK is what makes us choose the monorail/MK resorts every time, and I don't think we would consider choosing another resort.

That being said, is DVC worthwhile if you intend to be spending your points on "non-DVC" resorts?

Thanks for any information/advice.

IMHO DVC is definitely not worthwhile if someone is going to exchange their points for a Disney non-DVC resort.

I agree - not worth it if you are going to stay at non DVC properties. Perhaps you should wait until they announce DVC at the Contemporary as it might better suit your needs.

I also agree about not using your points at non-Disney resorts. Having said that I know someone who always stayed at the Poly but they have bought SSR and absolutely adore it. They think the rooms and pools there are excellent!

I agree that buying into DVC but using the points purely for non-DVC resorts doesn't make financial sense.

However, the DVC Villas at Wilderness Lodge would give you boat access to MK - not as quick or easy as the monorail from GF or Poly, but maybe worth considering.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to take a peek at the DVC resorts and see what we think. Can you use DVC points for stays at Disneyland California hotels? Having family in San Diego, we visit there quite often, so it would be very useful if the points could be used there as well.

Yes you can. :thumbsup2 We're going to use them there next summer when we visit the West Coast...

We bought into DVC the year we stayed at the Grand Floridian as we could not believe how much money we spent for just a hotel room. We think the DVC villas are much better accommodation and we get some privacy as we are not all in the same room. However we much prefer the location at SSR as we love to walk to DTD. Also DVC is for life so you may not always want to be that close to magic kingdom.

We have used our points for a half term trip to Devon!, trip to Disneyland Paris and this year our disney cruise on the Wonder.

You will need to think ahead and that your holiday needs change over the years.

:confused3 Half term to devon? we are looking also at buying into DVC and wondered about how other UK dvc'ers use points other than disney should the need or desire arise.

If you don't mind me asking
how many points do you hold?
how many did devon cost and
how did you go about booking such a trip?

sorry to be so inquisitive but we are trying to get our heads round all of this.

thank you :thumbsup2

We used ours last year on a three week tour of West Coast USA.

Landed in LA, Stayed at Disneyland Hotel -concierge for one night, then went off to Las Vegas – Venicean for 4 nights (Had to pay cash here) but did Hover Dam and Grand Canyon while here.

Then stayed in concierge collection at Lake Tahoe (Resort at Square Creek) Amazing!! Then over to San Fran (The Fairmont - top floor with view of Golden Gate and Alcatraz) then back to Disney for 6 days at The Grand Californian – concierge, and finally 4 days at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego.

Without DVC there would have been no way we could have ever afforded such amazing luxury accommodations, the whole trip was unforgettable.

We have also used points for two week stay at our home resort of BCV’s, a few days at SSR and two trips to Disneyland Resort Paris – Disneyland Hotel at Christmas! Lovely.

Hope this gives you some ideas for use, the following year, we hope to use points to go skiing to Colorado! There are a huge choice of places to go all over the world.

That's pretty much what we're hoping to do next summer! :thumbsup2 Really glad to hear it was successful for you... :)
