Is Disneyland really removing the hanging corpse from the Haunted Mansion....

There has been no official announcement and the ride isn't open yet. Right now it is just speculation.

I think it is something they are thinking of possibly doing. The reasoning being is said to be because it glorifies suicide.

Perhaps that's an option for those against...just don't look

Well, I know. And I hesitated to even mention how I feel about it. But my gut reaction is my gut reaction...and usually changes to attractions really bother me.

Not a popular opinion, but I wouldn't mind if they get rid of it. That is the one and only part of the attraction that makes me feel uncomfortable with my grandkids. I always cover their eyes.
I know it's very iconic but still...
I don't really like it either. Although I do think it is somewhat distasteful, my main gripe is that it just doesn't really match the tenor of the rest of the ride. All of the other references to death are playful, clever, or at least tongue-in-cheek. The hanging scene just feels morose. It doesn't bother me enough to really care, but it would be nice if it was changed to match the creepy-but-playful tone of the rest of the first half of the ride.

I hope they leave it as is, or possibly they could make the scrim a little bit more opaque to obscure it a little more. Removing it changes the story of the ride itself. It’s not really all that easy to see what it is, and there is the option not to look. I think more people, especially kids, are startled or scared by the lights abruptly going off than the short scene overhead.

My sister and I were young children (7 and almost 3) when we rode it the first time, and the graveyard was scarier to me than the stretch room.

I’ve missed it for many years…due to my menieres, i can no longer look up at something directly overhead…instant vertigo if I do. But we won’t really know until January, will we? The holiday version doesn’t include it..but I could be wrong…@LKing? Please verify….

Holiday version includes Jack projection peering from above

I hope they don't change it either. As others have said, it's a haunted house! And, you know, I am usually fine with trying to be sensitive and all but, again, it's a haunted house - it's going to have images of death and the macabre, which is the entire point.

I agree. I hate most of the changes to DL over the last 20 years, don't get me started on Splash Mountain but I don't mind if they get rid of this. It is the only thing in the park that I can think of at the moment that I wished wasn't there.

I'm in the unpopular vote that I would be okay with this changing and would trust Disney to come up with a good alternative. When we rode it for the very first time- with our kids- this part was unnerving. The vibe in the Que and leading up to it doesn't match it. If I sign up for a haunted house at universal or around Halloween time after dark here in the Midwest I know the vibe to be expected and wouldn't take my 5 year old... Haunted mansion doesn't give that same vibe- it gives spooky fun vibes..

And even without kids that section makes me a bit uncomfortable..
