I know this a hot topic right now as a Disney fan and a travel consultant I would like to know everyone's feelings about travel plans and future plans about what is going on with the Florida

Not gonna lie. If I start hearing that a bunch of people are getting sick because they aren't getting vaccinated and it makes me at more risk of getting something even though I've had all my vaccines (not sure if you have life long immunity if you start hanging around areas that don't have immunity) I would definitely consider other Disney destinations even though WDW is my "home".

I don't know if it will affect WDW or not. But, if you're wondering about how it will affect each individual poster, I won't be changing my travel plans based on this proposal.

The vaccine mandate proposal for Florida

The discussion is only about removing a specif list from the Florida Statue to mandate specific vaccines. The Statues have always included procedures for exempting a child from immunization requirements. The average was about 5% of students opting out.

Florida Statue - Title XLVIII EARLY, LEARNING-20 EDUCATION CODE, Chapter 1003 PUBLIC K-12 EDUCATION

Immunizations shall be required for poliomyelitis, diphtheria, rubeola, rubella, pertussis, mumps, tetanus, and other communicable diseases as determined by rules of the Department of Health. The manner and frequency of administration of the immunization or testing shall conform to recognized standards of medical practice.
It will not happen overnight since it will required be passed in a session of the Florida House, Senate, and finally signed by the then current governor. The sessions are only 1 time per year and only last 60 days. The House and Senate don't meet on the same schedule.

My family and I are all fully vaccinated and will stay up to date (as long as that's allowed in our state, anyway). I expect to see a rise in preventable diseases in Florida, but due to our vaccination status and lack of immune-compromising conditions, we will continue to visit Disney.

If they spend thousands on their vacation they will not usually cancel, but just go any way. Then there are the little ones who are ill with just a cough and sniffles, bless them. Then they touch all the handrails......

I searched out this thread this morning because I thought there would be discussion in this forum about infectious disease expert Michael Osterholm's warning yesterday that he "wouldn't want his kids going to Florida in the years ahead, to go to Walt Disney World or anyplace like that". My husband or I always got sick at WDW. It usually happened the day before we left for home, Every Time! It usually showed up as respiratory with sore throat, chills, sometimes fever, fatigue, and painful coughing. There was some variation of this illness every time. I have no problem with using the hand rails and I don't really avoid much or take extra precautions and generally don't get sick as a result of my trip. And this has nothing to do with cold/flu and what I'd consider the normal winter illnesses.
My main concern is that if certain vaccines are no longer required and so many people decide to opt their kids out of these vaccines then I may catch something that I had immunity to or worse bring it to my parents.

If I had children, and in the next few years we see a rise in diseases that previously had mostly been eradicated, I would think twice about visiting, yes. Actually, as above, I was vaccinated so long ago, who knows if it's lifelong?
