Are there any plans of WDW building a new Resort on Property ???
Maybe another Moderate ???

Going in 2009 and was curious ??

The only new resort I'm aware of is the new Four Seasons Golf resort in WDW. It will not be owned/operated by WDW just within WDW property such as the Swan & Dolphin.

I do remember hearing now that I think about it, a Pop Century Suite section being built. I'm not an Value fan so I didn't pay too much attention to it.

Disney itself seems to be working more on DVC than anything else (DVC Villas, probably CRV Villas, finishing the SS Villas). I hope they don't build anymore other resorts yet, until they have enough housekeepers and such to staff what they do have.

In addition to the 4 Seasons above, I know there are value type resorts planned - not Disney resorts - I think in the western corner of Disney.

the only new building is DVC - SSR, AKV hopefully CRV - if not DVC these will be suites - certainly not moderate.

I think WDW promised no new hotels for 5 years - this is year 4.

that doesn't mean that Pop can't be finished - this would be finishing something.

you know it surprises me that WDW hasn't finished this resort. As popular as Pop is now - it would be even better with the other part finished.

I really don't do the Value resorts either, or I don't do the DVC resorts.

AND, i only like to stay on property with a Disney owned place.

Thanks for Information

Rumors regarding finishing POP. Possibly family suites.

A lot of rumors regarding a new tower at the Contemporary. Possible DVC or possibly "mixed use" with some floors DVC and some floors reserved for hotel use.

Rumors about the CBR being re-themed as a pirate resort.

Disney seems to be leasing land. At the high end we're getting a Four Seasons. At the budget end we're getting what looks like a DTD clone in the Western Section.

I heard a rumor on the WDWRadio podcast that plans are in place to finalize the "Legendary Years" at Pop Century (didn't mention family suites)

It's all about supply and demand if Disney has to discount rooms to sell them, then there is no little need to build more resorts.

Disney was basically sold out last Columbus day weekend and during Spring Break. I think Disney is also sold out at Christmas, July 4 and a few other holiday weekends.

Disney already owns the land and has a lot of infrastructure in place. I can't picture POP will be expensive to build. Disney may be able to sell the rooms, at rack rate, enough nights to make money even if they have to discount the rooms part of the year.

After 9-11 Disney learned how to "mothball" resorts and sections of resorts. Disney could close sections of value resorts for rehab during the slower months.

Current construction includes AK Villas (DVC resort) at the AKL. That should be completed by 2009.

several people have wanted the family suites to be told they were sold out.

sounds like Disney is not taking the opportunity to build more at Pop.

Rumor is that the legendary years will be s=finishing construction. Announcement ALLEGEDLY coming October...we'll see...

I've never seen the suites really sold out when I've looked, though they aren't discounted. A lot of guests probably would stay away from them for that reason (though they look very nice). But you can't do ASM suite and free dine, or any other promotion. So if guests ask for a promotion with the ASM, those won't be available.

From what I read a long time ago, the problem has nothing to do with crowd levels. The problem is getting enough people to staff any new resorts. The unemployment rate in central Florida is extremely low. Disney, and all local businesses, are having a hard time hiring and keeping good employees.

I don't know what the solution is if what I read is true.

IMHO, the solution would either be to pay cast members more, or to tie in some bonuses related to company performance. Disney would get more CM candidates that way.

True, but more money attracts lots of responses and interest from unqualified candidates... you want qualified candidates. This is a complex regional issue if there is truly a shortage of qualified workers. Money is never the long term solution.

I guess I better tell my DH that we need to move to Orlando and work at Disney!! I'll tell him they need us!!! Anyone else wanna go??

To me the resorts are a big part of my vacation experience and I would love the opportunity to stay at every single one eventually!!

I don't understand Disney building the Legendary years and not finishing them. I'm not very business minded, but it seems like poor planning on Disney's part :confused3

a year or two before 9/1 - Disney got in trouble financially - stopped building Pop all together.

in 2003 things picked up. So the CLassical years at Pop were opened.

Disney wants to get back to their 90% capacity before opening the rest of Pop.

plus as someone says - maids/housekeepers were flown in from other countries but enough complaints about the lack of English these people understood has all but stopped that way to get employees.
