Is Disney getting desperate ???

Just got a pin code valid now thru 11/24 for 40% off all resorts:
$69 value
$99 mod
$189 deluxe villas

Also said stay and save during the holidays:
30% off select disney deluxe resorts 12/25-12/31

Have never heard of ANY discount for holiday week...Maybe the values and mods are full but the deluxes aren't booking up. Would love to go during the holidays but don't think I could handle crowd level and besides I don't have the $$$

They are either getting desperate or something. I live about as far west as you can get without falling into the Pacific Ocean, but they sent me my second FL Resident email yesterday! It was sent in DH's name, and he has never lived in FL. I lived in FL in 1992. What gives??!!

I do not think they are desperate yet, but they are reacting to the current economic situation.

Too say they are not affected by it would be crazy.
It was slower in October than I have seen in years past, IMO.
I was able to book a discounted room just before a promotion ended.
I was able to get exactly what I wanted.
I have not had luck like this in the past.
I was also able to get flights for 89 each way with short notice.
Last year I had to pay 250 each way.

I also feel that the visitors from Europe are declining.
There were many English visitors, but most of them were at the All stars.

In the past they seemed to be spread out across all the hotels.
They are cutting corners, like all of us.
I feel this has been Disney's bread and butter the last few years with the strong Euro and Sterling.

I did not run into any Irish visitors this year.
In Ireland going to Disney had become a rite of passage over the last 10 years.
Now people are not going on vacation at all.
(I also noticed very few "dots" from Ireland on the map in Epcot.)
Just going to the US for a week is a treat these days and your friends will say "You must be doing well."
People used to fly over for the weekend just to shop.
Obviously Ireland is a small example, but I am farmiliar with that situation.

This is all antidotal, but I think Disney is reacting quickly to the fluid situation.
I expect to see more deals like the 40% for Visa holders open to the general Public.

Better to fill a room at half price then sit empty at full price.
Get them to the parks and they will spend money.

Looking forward to some bargains in 2010.
I may even make it to Star Wars Weekends this year.

I'm just waiting for the military deal to be brought back, not necessarily the tickets, but teh 40% off room with dining. That was awesome this year!!

I recently upgraded from POR to AKL for two weeks at Christmas, all categories were open except CL and they transferred my free dining which would have been unheard of in years past. ADR's are still in what I have to believe, abundant supply as I have changed mine around multiple times with no problem, including Christmas Day.

lmf70 all i can say is that you are very lucky i wish i could get a pin for those dates we are going 12/31-1/9 we were not able to use the 40% before 1/3 so i will keep my fingers crossed that it is a pin code that comes out to the public! what a deal!

Keep in mind how high the holiday rates are to start with. Values are $145, Moderates are $219, AKL Standard is $405. So 30% off is still pretty high compared to the rest of the year.

I was wondering the same thing. Not because of the dates...but jeez I have literally received 5 PINs since August! Not complaining (even though I can't use them) but wow.

Yes it was an e-mail. I have gotten lots of pin e-mails this year too but just cannot go as DH's job stability is uncertain for now. I just had to post this one because of the holiday week discount-that was one I'd never heard of before.....I so wish I could take advantage. Here's hoping we can do a December trip next year. We were there last year in Oct and did MNSSHP and loved it so we'd really like to see it decked out for xmas!

Thanks so much for the help!! We go to Disney every year for Christmas and this is the first time that they have ever offered a discount for that particular week. We are hoping and praying that we get this email..rack rate at the WL is going to KILL us!!!!
