Is Disney’s Best Kept Secret your best kept secret too?

DH and I purchased DVC at Bay Lake Towers 2 weeks ago and neither of us have told our families. And we have no plans to do so. ;)

Stopped fighting that battle years ago. Some people just don't get it and never will. When I say they just don't get it I mean they don't understand to each his own and not to be jealous for what others have.

I keep quiet about it too! I just say "we are going to FL".

Why is it acceptable to go to the beach every year, year after year, and not acceptable to go to WDW?

The one time someone asked why are we going to Disney, didn't we do that last year, I responded "Yes we are going again. There is a new ride, a new show and a new parade (whatever it was at the time). You go to the beach every summer. What's new there? Same water, same sand, same boardwalk activies. Don't you get tired of going there every year". I don't hear about Disney anymore from these folks. :rotfl2:

I've tried the "We're going to FL" trick, too. And I get: "DISNEY!? AGAIN??!" complete with eye roll. So I just try to avoid the topic completely.

Anyone else going "home" between Nov 30 - Dec 10? Perhaps we should have a "secret" support group meeting! :rotfl:

 We will have 2 studio SV 12/01-12/10 at AKV. Maybe we will see you there? Have a great time :cloud9:

I won't tell if you won't....

We did the opposite. We admitted to DVC when we were getting all the eye rolls and such for the frequent vacations. At least with DVC, I feel like all these years of vacations will be very well worth the investment. I do know exactly what you mean, though. If we could sneak off on the vacations without anybody knowing at all, me might have tried that!! Enjoy your best kept secret. We sure do!

I will be there in a THV on 12/4 then a 5 day cruise, calling tomorrow to switch our BLT to AKL for our last 2 nights on 12/9 to 12/11!

Ooh, we'll be at Kidani, 2 br, standard view 11/30-12/10. :cloud9: We'll have to say hello!

I would like that, maybe I will PM you when there. I got a group of Dissers together in MS and we are still meeting almost 2 years later.

:wizard:

Sounds awesome! I'd love to have some kind of meet while we were down there - I've never done one before. Would be fantastic to put faces to screen names! :grouphug:

We don't keep DVC a secret, but have experienced the "rolled eyes" and "how can you afford to go to Disney all the time". And, that is with us having an 8 year old daughter.

I usually just respond with a "we love it" and I own DVC which makes it affordable for us.

It does get annoying. DH and I are comfortably middle class and try our best not to live above our means. This is why we joined DVC in the first place :cool1:

No, I don't keep it secret.

No matter what you do in life someone will always be envious!

I work hard and I deserve the best!! And isn't Disney the BEST!!

DVC lets us go 1st class to Disney. I love my BW & BLT (location, location, location), I love my 1 bedrooms, with w/d and full kitchen and balcony and I love what it cost to stay there!!!

I don't smoke, drink and gamble (except maybe $200 a year) so I splurge on my vacation and I don't have to answer to NO ONE!!

Please don't let people get to you, they would be jealous if you camped in a tent every year!! ENJOY YOURSELf!!!

This thread is a fascinating read.

We also keep our DVC ownership relatively quiet. Mostly, I can't be bothered to explain what is so unique about the product, and the fact that you can use those points for so many different kinds of vacations. It's not like you're having the same vacation time and again.

But another reason: I've discovered that by carefully managing those points, and scouring the web for great airfares, you can squeeze in many more trips than before. And that's where I feel a bit guilty. Looks like we'll manage a couple this year, and I'm still trying to finesse one more. It looks extravagant to the outsider, but that last one will cost us only airfare and food, so in the words of a TV pitchman, 'It's almost free!'

We've been able to fly out of dulles (va/dc) for less than $150 round trip w/taxes the past couples years. We have 200 BLT pts that have gone real far because we only stay in studios and limit our fri/sat stays. Our fees are taken out of a checking account per month and we hardly notice the money being drafted. We paid for the pts upfront in cash and only wish we could have sooner. We're fortunate that my mom is a huge disney fan. In fact, my sister is currently a CM. My wife's parents didn't know what to think about our disney obssesion until we got married there and they finally saw the light. I say to each their own. We're still in our 20's and thought it was the best investment we could have ever made. While friends/family are still paying for their brand new car we'll be bringing our grandchildren on maintence fees!

Yep, we've kept it a secret. No need for people to know, only to make remarks about it. Our extended family doesn't get it. They know we love it, yet still ask, "Again??"

I don't think our trips are any different than the family that takes the annual ski trip, or annual Mexico trip, or annual beach trip.

To each his own.

It's so comforting to know we're not alone! lol Thank goodness for the DIS, so we all have someplace to come where people "get" us. :cloud9:

only 202 more days :yay::banana:

People just wonder why we never vacation anywhere else and we do have kids. I love Disney so much and feel like I am in an exclusive little Disney club with my DVC membership. I love it but I too do not talk about it. The only way my parents found out is when we went last year and my dad could not get up to the viewing deck without a membership card and my DH had to take him up there.

My DH and I do not buy eachother gifts throughout the year and we put all that money in our vacation account. I think we just have different priorities.

We dont offer up this info either for all the same reasons listed here. I dont have to hear the "agains" or see the rolled eyes from close family like my mom and sisters since they totally get it...but some of my other family members dont get the connection. :confused3

DBF feels its no ones business what we do - ever...with anything...and doesnt put us out there like I do - I am just so excited and happy about it that I want to share before I can remember this is an exclusive club we have. :rotfl:

and I have come to know this IS the best kept secret there is and its exciting all on its own to be a part of it. :ssst

I totally agree. My mom and I just bought DVC in August and I don't regret it. I am more the Disneyista than anyone else in the family. :rotfl: I just came back on Sunday and the whole family is going back in August. 2 br sv at AKL. I do all the planning and they just follow.:rotfl2:

But there are many DVC owner at my job and we love talking about it. Some do ask do I ever get tired of it and I say heck no. Just like you do cruises every year, I do Disney every year. Besides my son, daughter and grandson loves it. Mom does too and there is so much to do that it seems like a different vacation everytime we go.:thumbsup2

Like I tell the HATERS, its my money and I like to travel and I can do what I want.

Nope, haven't kept it a secret. We've told all our friends and family and have had some of them come on vacation with us. Actually, I think I ought to be selling DVC.

The other day we were at our local Gamestop so DS could pre-order some Halo game. He was wearing his "fighting Mickey" T-shirt and the man working the register commented on how much he liked DS's shirt. From there the conversation went on to "Toy Story Mania" (first the game, then the attraction) and when he had last been to WDW. Then he told me that he and his wife had just become parents to a little boy and how he couldn't wait until his son's first visit. Turns out he and his wife go almost every year. So of course I tell him that if he's planning on going that often he really should buy DVC. He asks me about it and I start explaining about points and UY and all that. Finally I tell him he really needed to get to the Doorway to Dreams store at Woodfield Mall and check it out. If I had been thinking faster, I would have given him my name as a referral. As it was, another customer came in and we had to leave.

Oh, and I did end up pre-ordering "Epic Mickey" too.

My husband shares this second passion as well... which is how we finally agreed that DVC was the right choice for us. In addition to wonderful family trips, the two of us have spent many happy trips at the Food & Wine Festival enjoying the pairings and seminars. =)
Not to get off topic too much, but I enjoyed F&W for the first time last October, staying on points, and with the DxDP. Loved it. Didn't do any seminars, but sampled plenty of F and W. ;) More on topic, I likely wouldn't have gone without DVC points, ownership of which I put to good use when I can.
