Is Dino Gertie leaving Hollywood Studios?

Star Wars isn't in the old Hollywood section. Sunset and Hollywood boulevard are old Hollywood. You have to remember this was built as a working film studio and they wanted that old Hollywood feel throughout the park. Everything in the park has to do with major motion pictures.

It's right next to Indy and Backlot Express, so what section would you call it? It wasn't apart of Streets of America or the newly named Muppet Courtyard.

That's the echo lake area.

What? That's what we've been talking about, the things around Echo Lake. The dates are not adding up, especially not anymore.

Dino Gertie (1914)
Min and Bills (1930)
Indy (30's, 40's, 50's)
Primetime (50's)

Stars Wars (A Galaxy Far Far away)
Monster Sound Studio (?) which became a preview center and meet & greet area
Superstar Television (various decades like the 90's), which became American Idol (early 00's), which became Frozen (2013)

DHS has always been about movies. Everything there fits a time period about film and entertainment.

Sadly I feel she needs to go. makes no sense what so ever and will probably become part of what I think will be a larger Indiana Jones section.

I'm worried where classic Hollywood will actually fit in once the two lands are complete.

Isn't DHS really Hollywood (generally)-- and Hollywood's history is part of Hollywood as a whole? As a brand that fundamentally defined itself on animation, it makes sense to me that they would have an homage to one of the first animated pieces ever.

I hope they don't get rid of her! Maybe she's just getting some touch-ups. :)

I don't know. Having a tribute to the first animated cartoon of consequence in a park theme'd around movies seems to make sense to me. Without Gertie we may not have had character animation to this extent.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that, yes, if/when the theme of the park changes she will probably have to go. But for it's original theme it fit pretty well.

Wasn't some of the original rumors (that have all been coming true) mentioning moving the restuarants and echo lake would be going away over the long term of the future phases of changing hollywood around?

Maybe I'm just a sentimentalist, but I love Dino Gertie! Does she make any sense to the themeing? Not, not really. Is she out of place? Yes. Could something cooler be put in place of her? Possibly. But there's just something about her being there that I like. I think it's because DHS is changing so much. And I'm so nostalgic of that park, I get nervous the more and more they want to remove. I love the retro, old Hollywood vibe.... and it hurts to feel it dwindling! Keep moving forward, I know, but that doesn't make changes any easier!

Originally Echo lake was going to be removed for Star Wars land.

I don't remember the rumor being that and it was speculation that it was for star wars land. I'll have to backtrack and find it..

The fireworks seem to be off center to me and I've been wondering if the echo lake plan is actually for a new park entrance and "hub" and seeing how plain the towers are for the projections it seems like they were built lower cost because they aren't expecting to be a perm feature.. My second thought is they might be planning to move the show to star wars land as that should line up also.

That was the rumor...

Echo lake is not going to be a new entrance to the park.

Last December the fireworks were directly behind the Great Movie Ride, now they're way off to the right. I just figured it was due to the construction back there now? Or they cut back because of noise complaints, because it did sound like we were being shelled at Coronado (not so bad when they were at a normal time, but kind of alarming the first night when they did it at around 1am).

They made a launch pad for it across world drive. My guess is the driving factor was to not have to close down the back of the park just to have fireworks which would have meant the new lands shut down for it. It was purposely put to the side. This makes me think that we're not standing where they are expecting everyone to be standing in the long term when we watch it. It's too far to the side to say it was a mistake. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

As far as the volume, the first time I saw them I was like "wow, it's quiet so you can hear the soundtrack perfectly" and that might be it to show off the 360 sound system. I can partially see and it's close enough to wake us up if we're sleeping on the nights it's really loud.. most nights I dont even hear them go off sitting outside but some nights it's ordinance. Epcot which is a lot louder in person is louder than it from here (and further away).

Disney built a permanent Launch site fireworks across The street. Disney did cut back on pyro which is why it's more of a projection show with pyro now.

It definitely wasn't a mistake but they aren't creating a new hub like you think they are either. With two new lands coming this launch site will likely give views from those areas.

Party pooper. I still say it's going to be dramatically different in 10ish years.. I don't disagree it's not planned, but reworking the maze of crazy that the park is has definitely started :)

I agree the cartoon came out in 1914, Disney should have gone with something that was more relevant. Even back when DHS opened in 89 it was outdated and most people didn't know what it was from. The same goes for Min and Bills (1930), which is across the pond. Whose seen and remembers that movie that's still alive today?

They didn't make the Legendary Years at Pop Century for this reason. I like Monopoly and puzzle pieces, but eventually even Disney realized that Cars, Nemo, Mermaid and Lion King are much more marketable. Because most people have seen and even grown up with these modern day classics.

So because most people don't know what it was, it should be removed? And yet, it's these details and backstories that Disney puts in, that are what made the parks great back then. You had to figure some stuff out. Not have it spoon fed to you.

No I disagree, If it's supposed to be just loosely themed as "Old Hollywood" then why do they have Star Tours in this section. That's not "Old Hollywood", it was made in the 70's, 80's and this century and takes place in a galaxy far away.

Star Tours in Old Hollywood???

Oy vey.

This thread perfectly illustrates the point that the Studios has slowly but surely list its identity over the years. It had a definite theme when it opened, but it's been so diluted that these days that no one really knows WHAT it's supposed to be. I don't think even the powers-that-be have a cohesive endgame in mind.
