I am concnerned about my 3 day diversion from the theme parks to this beach area. This is after reading about some of the hotels on the beach (esp holiday inn) and about beach lice..any feedback would be great...the reason I was thinking of this beach is because hubby wants to spend a day at KSC.

Thanks very much!

We went there a few years ago and I wasn't terribly impressed with it. I didn't experience any beach lice though! ICK!! I guess I was expecting a typical soft sand Florida beach and what I got was similar to New England Beaches... coarse sand and lots of pebbles and stones...We had a nice day, but I didn't feel like I was in Florida!

If I wanted a beach and it was the only one available, I'd go back to Cocoa Beach, but with all the beautiful beaches in Florida, I probably won't be back anytime too soon.

We are just back from Disney with a day at Cocoa Beach, here are some pictures of the beach itself and my daughter tempting fate:

Here is my teenager too cool to go down to the water and catching rays:

You can see the sand is brownish and compacted. Still, this is what you would expect on the Atlantic side in Central Florida. The shells aren't like the Gulf side, but...you have waves. Cocoa Beach is right there for the KSC (we could see the launch towers from the beach), and a CM at the Swan told us she goes to Cocoa Beach to get a good seafood dinner-lots of seafood restaurants there. Also, my teenager did like going to Ron Jon's Surf Shop-I was amazed that you can buy a small boogie board for $5 there.

Have a great trip,

We went to cocoa beach 4 years ago and thought it was pretty gross. Our kids loved seeing the ocean for the first time, but I thought it was very dirty and not at all what I had hoped. 2 years ago we went to Vero Beach and it was beautiful. Since we were staying at a WDW resort we were able to use the beach at the Disney's Vero Beach resort. The front desk was very helpful. We actually loved it so much there that next month we are going to spend the last 2 nights of our WDW vacation at the Vero Beach resort. It's only an hour and a half from WDW so I would highly recommend going there instead of Cocoa if you have a choice. Good luck! Julie

We enjoyed our stay at Coco Beach and will be returning this month for a day.

The only problem we had was that I wanted a room overlooking the ocean.
The rooms at the Holiday Inn smelled funny. I'm not sure if they had been
closed up but they had a strange odor to them that almost made me sick.
We were in the room about 15 minutes and I had to get out.

We asked to change rooms and the room they gave us away from the ocean
still smelled but not as bad as the one on the ocean. We either opened the
windows or turned on the air conditioner. (I can't remember which) and
it seemed to take care of the problem.

My husband thought the smell was just because of the ocean but it
was terrible.
