Is Bush running to the middle, or is he really a moderate?

So the word has been circulated that if Bush is reelected that Ashcroft will no longer be AG. The reason stated is that he is too conservative for Bush's politics. Now, after the last election a big complaint is that Bush ran as a moderate and then swung way right once in office. Now election time is coming again and we get this announcement.

So, is Bush truly a moderate that has been putting up with Ashcroft for this term, or is he just trying to reposition himself for the election since he feels the ultra-conservative vote is wrapped up?

Personally I feel this is so much political wrangling, or we would have seen evidence of Bush holding Ashcroft in check earlier.

Bush is...whatever he is. I can't exactly accuse him of being on the right because he isn't doing the things I generally like about right...but he is managing to do the things I dislike about the right. Ditto for the left...he isn't doing the things I like about the left but he is managing to do the things I dislike about it.

As you can imagine I'm not voting for him. Assuming he only does the legal two terms I can't imagine letting him have a free reign over the next four years. It is just too frightening.

Bush is nowhere near being a moderate, heck he doesn't even spend like one.

I consider myself pretty moderate and I haven't seen Bush at any of the parties... ;)
