Is booking on board worth it?

I have read several posts reguarding booking your next cruise while on board and was curious if the deal is really worth it?

Weel you get %10 off total cruise price as well as $200 per cabin credit on the 7 day. THEN when you come back home, check with various TA's and see if they can lower the price even more! ( Mine did) and then transfer your res over to them! I think it was VERY worth it!

how far in advance can you book when you're on board?

From what I understand as far as you need to. Even if the dates are not opened up yet, you van be put on some sort of list.

Booking on board makes it easier for us to get off the ship when the cruise is over...knowing that we will be coming back!

(We have always switched to our own TA afterward and still recieved our stateroom credit)

We are booked for an October 2005 cruise, knowing that we will switch our reservation to October 2006 once the dates open up.

For a seven day, its probably worth it, but you do need to have the deposit (I'm not clear if its $250 per stateroom or $250 per person - we did per person but I seem to remember you can do per stateroom).

For a three or four day, you only get the stateroom credit, and its smaller. You can probably get just as good a deal using your Disney Visa.

Last year someone posted the thread

"what was your biggest regret" about what they did or did not do on the cruise they regretted the most.

about 80% said that NOT re-booking on board was their biggest regret.

Our Xmas cruise 2005 will cost about $1,000 less than the Xmas 2003 Cruise. (after 10% discount, very early booking and $200/room credit on two rooms).

I prefer to learn from others mistakes than make my own!
