Is AP worth it?

I have reservations at RPR and currently have tickets purchased 2 day 3 days free. However, if I get an AP I can save an additional $150 on our room so I did the math and all in all it will actually only be a $60 savings when you add the additional cost of the AP. However, I was thinking of all the other savings I might get at restaurants, stores, etc. So my question is this? One is it worth it - this is our first time so I am not sure if we would go back or not within a year. Also, how far is it to pick up/upgrade our tickets from RPR because it is my understanding I have to show them my AP upon check in. I know my husband will think it is crazy and too inconvenient to walk a long distance to get the AP just so we can check it but to me it looks like it might be worth it. Please help. Thanks.

**Also, do you upgrade your tickets to an AP at the same ticket kiosk?

if you buy your AP online, you receive an eticket confirmation you print out at home and bring with you. if you show that at check-in, that's more than enough. the kiosks are the the entrances to the parks, a quick boat ride over or a quick walk to IOA from the RPR. you get a voucher to enter the park for the day, and you have to process your AP before you leave. as far as upgrading, I believe you have to go to guest services at the parks to do that.

I called RPR and Universal to get more info on this and to see if it would be worth the time to upgrade before check in, etc. As mentioned before, when you do the math it is definitely a savings (minor up front but still enough that it will pay for food or something plus the extra savings of discounts throughout the parks). Anyway, first I checked with RPR and they said you do have to show your AP at check in but if I explain that I will be upgrading that day that as long as I show them upon return from the park that they will honor the AP rate so I went ahead and changed my reservation. I am going 3-27 to 3-31 and the AP rate is $149 vs. the $199 I had. Anyway, so I called Universal ticket office and was told to upgrade the best way to do it is just go directly to guest services in Citiwalk by the theatres and they will upgrade one ticket and print out my others. So it looks like it is going to work out. I hope it goes this smoothly once we arrive. So do you think there is any chance of an upgrade since I now have the AP rate? I have seen mixed messages that some have gotten upgrades with AP and others have not. I will still ask and hope for the best. I cannot wait to go. I am looking so forward to it and FOTL as we went to WDW last year and it was no fun waiting in lines.

thanks for posting that.

i am seriously thinking of upgrading my tickets to the ap and also staying at the rph. i will have to call them to switch from aaa to ap
