Is anyone having any luck with short notice ressies these days?

Just venting - but it seems like it really is true these days, there doesn't seem to be such a thing as a short notice reservation anymore except perhaps at SSR. Twice now this year I've tried to get reservations at various resorts at say the 2-4 month mark with very little luck. First I was looking for a studio in July and all I could get was SSR (I was hoping AKV or BWV). I started about 2 months out and was on the waitlist for AKV with no luck at all. Plus I called about every few days. We ended up at SSR, which was fine but we really wanted AKV or BWV.

Second was HHI. I know there are very few studios - but I was looking for something as late as September or October and started back in May. The only thing I could get was two nights starting Sept. 1. (I was hoping for 4 nights). Once again, I've called and called with no luck and in fact they are booked up solid for the entire months of September and October. I just called checking for any last minutes cancellations and none were to be had nor were there even any cash ressies available. We're happy to get the two nights we got, but it will seem like we're leaving just as soon as we get there.

I guess I'm just stating the obvious. But it is still disappointing and sad IMO and as far as HHI goes I just see it getting worse as the time goes by.

My son's waitlist came through for him - we had booked SSR about 2 1/2 months ago and it came through 6/7 days before his arrival to the BWVs.

I also booked two studios at HH for three nights 7 months out.

Try the waitlist - this is the first time we tried it and it came through for us.

We planned a (5 weeknight) trip a month and a half out for this past May. We initially booked SSR and waitlisted, and within two weeks we had all 5 nights at BWV. We ended up adding a sixth night (a Saturday) at BCV.

We had no trouble at all, and had a wonderful vacation.

We got a Boardwalk studio on 4 weeks notice for 8/31. Very Very Happy!

I have another success story. We booked 4 nights in a studio at BCV for the 2nd week of September on July 20th. We are waitlisted for the Sunday night which I'm not sure we'll get but I was surprised that the 4 nights were available on such short notice.

I called this week and was able to get a 1 bedroom at BWV for Sept 12th-16th, and a studio for our extended family at SSR for Sept 14th - 17th. We had at least 2 other resorts to choose from for the 1 bedroom, but only SSR had availability for the studio for those 3 nights. We were very thrilled, as we just purchased 2 contracts resale, and the points only hit our member account this week, or I would've called earlier.

Called the last week of June for anything July 6-10 - had our choice of concierge level AKV, VWL, or VB (which we wanted).

Neither SSR nor OKW were open. :goodvibes

I had a choice of BWV, VWL, AKV, along with SSR/OKW for studios for mid-October when I called at the end of July. Went with VWL.

I think at HHI, they have more 2brs than any other unit, and I think a lot of the golfers prefer fall/spring over summer.

I called in early July for a 1 bedroom for the end of August for 7 nights and had my choice of VWL, BWV, SSR, or OKW. No waitlisting or having to move. All of them were available for all 7 nights.

Well it sounds like everyone is having pretty good luck except for me . I was just surprised that every single studio was booked solid at HHI all the way to November. Like someone said it must be the golfers. DW and I were talking last night and we'd give anything if all our points were at HHI. Unfortunately out of our 290 points only 80 are at HHI and they don't go very far. I've borrowed all I can, so we're pretty much set on booking at 7 months at HHI for the foreseeable future. I guess we could always go in January .

I'm from Ohio and a lot of the people I know locally that are big HHI fans, head to there in the spring/fall timeframe. It tends to be the "golfing" guy trips or the long girls only weekend.

To be honest I was rather surprised to find a studio at one of the Hotel DVC's for the dates I wanted to go. My trip has 2 MNSSHP going on and VWL is a good choice if you are into that. I'm usually a 11/7 month on the dot kind of girl.

I'm not.

I've given up even trying for HHI. :confused3 We tried to get a studio in the summer for 2 years - and right at 7 months. Never got it. I think there are only 12 studios total, and I'd want to travel between June-November - which is prime HHI season for those of us who live in the south. Especially now with the economy in the dumps - a week at HHI for a family is going to be thousands of $$ cheaper than a week at a Disney Park DVC, so I bet it's even more in demand than it was two years ago.

HHI is the only DVC, in our experience, that has been impossible to get during the warm months of the year. (We have gotten it in January and March).

I called for HHI on the morning the seven month window opened and then waitlisted immediately and it didn't come through and that was for my son's honeymoon! So I feel your pain. Fortunately we were able to get them a room at Vero and they had a wonderful time there.

They've never had availiability at VWL when I've called...NEVER! But they ALWAYS have SSR! It's annoying, really. For my birthday trip we went ahead and booked SSR 1BR and waitlisted for the same at Kidani SV, and got it. Actually, we waitlisted a studio first, got it, and then for a 1 BR and got it!

At the end of July I requested a studio SV at Kidani for Sept. 13 and they had it...then changed my mind and wanted a 1 BR and it was immediately available, to my surprise. I don't care if I have to waitlist, next trip I plan WILL be at VWL! Haha :) I just returned from a 1-nighter with DBF that was booked 4 days in advance!! I WANTED VWL, but doubted ANYTHING would be open at such short notice, but, of course, only SSR had an opening so we just snagged whatever we could.

I live 2 hours NW in Gainesville, so I do short-term bookings often, so maybe that's my problem, idk, but the lack of availability still annoys me at times...

We went to Vero Beach this year instead of WDW. Originally it was just for a change of pace but as it turned out we were very glad we went because I really couldn't afford an expensive trip to the world. We are contemplating Vero again next summer.

Hey Photobob:

I know you've been to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach.

How would you compare a trip to Vero to a trip to the Alabama coast?

Is it worth the long drive to Vero?

Wow...this makes me so glad that we were able to book the $66+ night in a studio for Halloween weekend this year with the Disney Visa special that I learned about here on the Disboards when we were in Cape May 2 weeks ago!

We've wanted to visit Savannah and Disney's HHI resort. We've got our plane tickets, some ideas about places to eat and a tour to do in Savannah.

It's not 2-4 months, but I just booked rooms at 5 months out - 2 nts in Kidani studio & 5 nts in BCV studio. Booking for the last week in January probably helped. I was hoping for a value studio at AKV instead of Kidani to save a few points, but other than that, I got exactly what I wanted. Since we're new and I haven't read up on waitlisting yet, I'm going to stick with my ressies as booked.

It seems like if you don't have a specific resort you want to stay in, you can almost always find something on short notice. The issue is 2-fold I think. You have the carpetbaggers (like myself) who own one place but prefer to stay at non-SSR/non-OKW resorts. And you have the nature of DVC which is advance planning.
