Is anyone familiar with any of these hotels in San Diego?

Decisions, decisions... ;)

I was all set to book a suite at the Holiday Inn in Mission Bay but then I came across these three resorts and they ALL look so appealing! They are Humphreys Half Moon Inn, the Handlery Hotel and the Red Lion Hanalei. The Handlery and Red Lion are particularly good deals but they all seem reasonable to me.

Any opinions? If I can just finish this part of our trip I can start posting questions about really important subject like restaurants and rides at Disneyland! ;)

I've stayed at Humphrey's before, it's nice enough, nothing spectacular. It is right on a marina, which is nice, and we had one of the suites, which was also nice. The decor is a little dated but it's clean.

I don't know anything about the other two, hopefully some San Diego folks can help! :)

Humphreys is the most expensive of the group so it's easy to discard that one. ;) I really hope someone posts something about the Handlery because I'm most interested in that one even if DH is pushing hard for the Holiday Inn. All of those points you know. :) Thanks!

I live in San Diego but unfortunately I haven't heard of those hotels, I'll see if I can find out anything - I haven't lived here all that long or I would probably be more helpful :)

It wasn't Red Lion at the time, but I'm pretty sure I stayed at the Hanelei 20 years ago (yes, you are reading that right). It was a nice hotel, but it is inland. If you want to stay by the water, Humphrey's is by the water. Try looking at the Shelter Island Inn as well - it was very close to Humphrey's, less expensive. It was basic but clean (stayed there 10 years ago while the LA riots were going on in LA). Handlery sounds familiar, is it near Hanelei. There are a bunch of hotels in that area. They are nice, but I like being by the water better.

Ashwyn, it must be wonderful to live in San Diego. I'm very impressed by everything so far.

honeymom, being by the water would be fun but the prices of the hotels on Coronado scared me off somewhat. That was my original destination. Then I decided to key more on Sea World and Old Town.

The Handlery's directions are "We're just off I-8, two blocks from Highway 163 and a mile from I-5. And we're only a 10-minute drive from San Diego International Airport". This tells me that they're definitely not near the water at least. I'll certainly check into the Shelter Island Inn.

Thanks! :)
