Is Anyone Else Worried That The SSR Incentive Will Flood The Market?

I am concerned that the 100 pt. bonus might make it more difficult to obtain a ressie next year as it seems many people that did the add-on banked their points.

Also, for the people renting out their points -- aren't you worried that there might be a glut on the market? There have been many attempts to try and increase the per point cost to $11 or $12 each, will having so many rental points available actually cause the points to go under $10?

Just a little food for thought... :)

I don't really care if it "floods" the rental market. If you buy to rent I figure that was not the best use of your money anyway.

As to "flooding the reservations" yesterday I booked 4 nights at SSR for the week before memorial day (did have to waitlist the last Thursday) so so far so good.

Me thinks Carol has too many points and vacation time.. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I own at SS, so I'm not concered at all. I bought the place that I want to stay at. I would understand if other small places like VWL, BC, or BW were concerned about thousands of SS people booking at their resorts, but that's what the 11 month booking window is for.

Old days, when you bought, you usually got a use year that began 4 to 6 months before the date of purchase and thus immediately got a bunch of points you had to use quickly or bank. Never resulted in a problem while a resort was being sold and likely won't now. Rental market really does not change much because most people simply don't do it. One reason there will still be plenty of space available: they are building units that will open for sale next year, thus those will be open for people buying now but the points relating to those units will just be starting to sell; i.e., the increase in room inventory will easily handle any bonus points being given now.

My standard opinion addresses this as well: I don't think it will affect most of us DISers, who shrewedly use the 11 and 7 month windows by obsessively planning in advance ::yes::. It might affect those who look at the calendar in May and say "Hey, we need to make our DVC reservations for July" :faint: .

I don't think many people are doing the add-on just for the purpose of having points to rent out. I was just wondering what would happen to the people that suddenly had a lot of extra points and couldn't use them for whatever reason. In our case, if we did the add-on I know we wouldn't be able to use all the points as we have already banked our '05 points and don't plan on going to WDW this year (we're doing DL next month instead). We have never rented out any points and don't really want to, but in a case like this, it might be our only option (however, I would offer it to friends and family first).

I wouldn't anticpate any ressie problems in '05 as much as I would for '06 when people need to start using the points they banked.

It's times like this when I really wish we lived within driving distance of WDW!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: You can NEVER have too many points or TOO much vacation time.

Actually this one is a gift to a friend. (I have more points this year then time due to a Girl Scout trip to Europe for three weeks) We are fighting over payment. My theory is I already paid for it so I don't care. Her's is We have to pay! LOL!

I have friends and family like that, too - could it be a "Carol" thing? :teeth:

Anyway, if she continues to insist, let her buy you an annual pass voucher!

Best wishes -

I rationalized the add on purchase thinking that renting out these points would drive down the cost of the add on. However, now I just gotta use those points! With the opportunity for a summer trip in a 2 bedroom with family I.... ...just.....can't..help....it.

The good news is DH will forget about my original plan to rent anyway ;)

We tend to travel at "off" times, so I don't think it will affect us at all.

People will ask whatever they want to ask, but I think the reality of more and more people renting is a primary reason that points are still available for $10 each. Seems like barely a day goes by without a current or potential member asking for advice on renting.

I found it very interesting that the polls on the board now "If you own at BCV, VWL, BWV, OKW or SSR where do USUALLY book?"

On the BWV, VWL, BCV, OKW post the owners all picked their home resorts.

While the SSR owners picked...All DVC resorts equally.

:confused3

I find it interesting that the people that I know who bought at SSR never want to stay there and leads me to believe that any short term reservations at your home resorts will become more and more difficult.

But not everyone that bought there, doesn't want to stay there.

A question, if I may, about these people you know: Are they the type to call at 9:00 AM ET on the absolute first day of the 7 month window and book day.by.day?

Thanks. Be well!

They can't touch me. They can give out all the bonus points they want. I own at Boardwalk Villas and always make my Boardwalk Villas reservations at the 11 month window.

Could someone please explain the 100 pt. incentive with SSR? I just returned from the tour (3/8). They offered us an $8/point rebate (off of $95/ pt.) or a vacation to be used in 2005:scratchin. Is the vacation the 100 point incentive?

While on the subject, I am ready to pull the trigger and buy in to SSR (my first ever purchase). My head says "no" but my heart says "go." Does anyone have a history of the pricing and incentives of SSR since they opened? Is it safe to say that the price will go up and the incentive will fade away as the resort nears completion?

I'm a newbie (1st post, just registered today) Thanks in advance!! :worship:

I think the rental value may go up just because the gap between what Disney charges and $10 per point will continue to increase. There will be a point where the rental market will have to creep upward just from price pressure.
