Is anyone else going to watch the new Battlestar Galactica tonight?

After over 20 years, Battlestar Galactica is back on the air, sort of. The new sci-fi channel mini series features a female Starbuck and two new guys cast as Apollo and Adama. Of course, Loren Green 20 died years ago (thats 140 in dog years for all you Alpo commercial fans), so they couldn't bring him back as Adama, but why did thay have to recast Starbuck and Apollo? Couldn't they have brought Hatch and Benidict again and have them play older versions of their characters who are now having to deal with new, young, hotshot viper pilots?

To top it off, the cylons now look like humans and have emotions. Can you say "budget cuts"?

Lets face it, the original show, which we used to call Battlestar Ponderosa, was never really very good. Still, it was a lot of fun to watch and I think they could have brought it back without making all the big changes they have made. Oh well, I'm a sucker for space opera (even bad space opera), so my VCR will be taping it tonight.

Does anyone else plan to watch Battestar tonight?

DH is watching it in the living room. I will probably watch t.v. in the bedroom since the tv in there only goes to channel 41, it is 18 years old, but it does have a remote!

Too many changes for me... I could handle the gender changes, but human looking cylons are a bit too much. Too many other changes as well from what I have read.

I guess I'm just a nerd at heart... While I don't agree with the recasting of Starbuck... I kind of like this new version. A few exceptions I don't like: new Apollo looks kinda wimpy, new Starbuck isn't cocky enough, and the new Balthar is just plain annoying. At least the original one had a creepiness to him. I just want to smack the new one.

If you're still into the old one like I am, Sci-fi is running the original one at 5pm weekdays, just before repets of SG-1 (another fav of mine).

Richard Hatch actually wrote a script for a new series that would have continued the story 15-20 yrs after the last episode (and would ignore the short lived Galactica 1980 series). He showed a short film at Dragon Con in Atlanta a few years back and inspirred a huge fan based campaign to get someone to back the idea. Hatch tried to by the rights to BG but they would not sell it to him. He had several of the old series regulars ready to get in on the project. When Sci Fi bought the rights, fans (including myself) started a letter writing campaign to Sci Fi to ask them to use Richard Hatch's idea. However Glen Larson was also working on a rewrite of the story and Sci Fi went with him.

Many hard core fans of the orgional have boycotted Sci Fi, but I did not. I really didn't know until todya if I would watch, which I did.

If I "forget" that it is suppose to be BG then it's pretty good. However I keep finding myself thinking about how the orgional actors would be potraying the parts.

I actually like the female Starbuck.

Hey at least when they changed Boomer into a girl they gave her my first name.

My soon to be husband is going to watch, and he's been really excited about this. (Had to tape it since we work night shift.)
