Is anyone else already thinking about eating through the holidays?

I'm planning my very first cheat day for Thanksgiving. I don't intend to eat anything sugary, but mashed potatoes with gravy will be on my plate. :)

We obviously don't celebrate Thanksgiving here, so I don't have the problem of thinking about what I'm going to be eating. My biggest problem comes just after Thanksgiving! We have a 14 day trip to WDW. I keep thinking about all the yummy food that is available there and wondering how on earth I am going to be able to resist it! :D

I get back from Disney the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving. I am going to enjoy myself, use my flex points for Thanksgiving, but stay within my points. I know I can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will have Turkey, stuffing, cranberries, sweet potato and probably mashed potatoes too!! Maybe I will even make myself a lowfat pumkin pie!!
Maybe I will start trying to plan my menu early so I can be prepared.

Im thinking of how Im not going to eat my way through the week onboard the Magic Nov 8-15! (Im planning my drinks instead)

Oh my gosh have I been thinking about this! I am not worried about Halloween since I don't eat a lot of candy anyway (however, I do love the orange and black M&Ms:p ). I am terrified about Thanksgiving because I always have the whole family over and that means all of the left overs are in my house!!! I am already thinking about buying some of the disposable ziplock containers to send things home with other people so that after Thanksgiving I am not eating too much for the whole weekend!!! And the Christmas holiday - I am not even going there yet! I am the cookie maker for the whole family! Yikes! I start making cookies the first weekend in November all the way to Christmas. I am so used to eating dozens of cookies as I go. I have decided that I will still make them but they are all going to our freezer in the garage. It is cold in the winter in Minnesota so if I want a cookie I will have to freeze while going out to the garage (it is not attached to the house). I am hoping that this will deter me from eating too many. I have dreamt about putting a big blanket out in the garage so I can just wrap myself up and sit by the freezer in the garage eating cookies - I am so sick!!! Seriously, I am going to make some plans to control myself but I am also going to be eating some of the things that I just love and wait for every year. I am not going to totally deprive myself because then I find I just want it more and think about it more than I need to (like the cookies in the garage dream!). Good luck to everyone!

For the first time, in my entire life, I have no plans to eat any foods that are off plan. I may eat too many on plan foods but don't intend to eat anything not Atkins friendly.

I truly do not know when this happened. I have made some sort of fundamental change. I truly do not believe that I will ever eat a potato or refined carbohydrate ever again.

I think I will eat some La Soeur baby green peas though, just 1/2 cup. I do love them :) They are legal, just sort of high carb.

The really weird thing is that I do not feel deprived or have any desire to eat off plan foods. Do you think I have a disease or something?

Katholyn, can I be you when I grow up?? Seriously, that is one mature attitude!! I hope that I'll eventually get to that place....but I'm not there yet.

I have thought about the holidays. I am eating low-carb / controlled carb. I have no desire to gorge on stuff that's off plan because I feel physically AWFUL when I overdo the carbs. But I think a little bit here and there, as long as I keep the carbs low for the day and try to keep them low glycemic, won't hurt. I do know that it will slow down or stop my weight loss, but this is a long term journey, not a race.

They don't celebrate Thanksgiving OR Christmas here, so I should be okay through those months. Whiel I'll miss the holiday spirit, I won't miss the foods for one year. It's kind of nice that it's "built in" for me!

I must be a bad person......

Even though I am on Atkins I must confess that I intend to come off the plan (slowly) just before my Disney Cruise, I have waited 5 years for this and I am not going to refuse all this lovely food that will be freely available!!!!!!!

Maybe I should go to the bottom of the class

:(

Highland Lass, it's perfectly fine to decide to indulge. You are a grown-up and you are allowed!

However, once you've spent time strictly low-carbing, a carb binge can make you feel awful (like I did earlier this week...LOL). I think your idea of upping your carbs little by little before the cruise sounds wise. Also, you'll gain some water weight back pretty quickly, so be careful not to pack any clothes that are just barely wearable - pack stuff with a little extra room.

Enjoy that cruise!!

I am already planning Thanksgiving foods! I've got last November's "Cooking Light" out on the coffee table in our family room. Lots of good "light" recipes for the holidays.

Of course that won't keep me from indulging in pumpkin pie!:p

We are going to be AT WDW during the week of Thanksgiving.!!I have been planning on eating some mashed potatoes that day but now since my cravings went way out of wack by eating one biscuit I am very afraid to do it now.I have increased my water intake the last couple of days and I am slowly getting back to feeling more control. I might have to re-think my feelings on the mashed potatoes.

Funny you should ask....Like Katholyn, I am not panicking about Tgiving! I am so freaked out about eating the wrong thing, I guess it came from chatting with all of you, I am afraid to go off plan! I am planning on bringing a couple of things that are on plan, so I don't feel deprived.
When the time gets closer we should start "Holiday menus for Atkins" thread or "....WW thread" etc... to help each other come up with tasty alternatives!

No, but I have been collecting recipes for things to make that I will be able to eat! (goodie wise that is)

Last year, I went off program at Thanksgiving - I had lost 15 lbs. From the end of November until mid-May I lost another 5 lbs. I don't intend to do that this year! I want to continue to lose while eating what I should. I, too, am the family cookie-baker, but I think I can resist eating them! (mmmm...pumpkin cheesecake!)

Thanksgiving really scares me. A few years ago I was on a low carb diet for 6 months, lost weight, and decided to splurge a little on Thanksgiving. That was my downfall! After that, I couldn't seem to get back on track. I tried a few times and the weight wouldn't come off.

This year I'm going to look for some low carb substitutes. I think we may be going to DS's home for Thanksgiving (the first time I won't be cooking in 37 years) so leftovers won't be a problem. I'd love to find a recipe for "fake" stuffing. Maybe something with Atkins bread? I really like my "fake" potato salad, but my "fake" mashed potatoes weren't at all like the real thing.

I love the idea of a low carb Thanksgiving recipe post. We should be starting it soon so we can experiment.

Might I suggest that we put the recipes on the low-carb recipe list and just put a copy or a link in a holiday recipe thread? I really love the low-carb recipe list and I'd hate to lose any of the yummy recipes!!
