Is AAA worth the money?

DH thinks we should sign up for our upcoming trip. Has anyone had to use their roadside services? Do they respond promptly? Was it worth what you paid for the membership? Anyone have any advice about this?
TIA,
Kimba :paw:

I had a flat tire on New Years Day, around 11:00am. They showed up in 15 minutes.

We saved about $500.00 on our upcoming trip with the AAA discount. My TA is also working thru all of this WILMA BS for us. So yes for us it is.

I saved a little over $200 on our package for our Nov trip from booking through AAA vs directly through WDW....in addition I love getting their trip-tiks and maps and guidebooks for free when we travel. I haven't had to use the roadside assistance very often but it is nice to know it is available if you need it....to me it is $$ well spent.

I have used their roadside assistance a few times, each time being a lifesaver. Twice I was stranded with a dead battery with a toddler in the car and once with a flat tire in the mountains. Each time they responded quickly and got me out of my jams immediately. The responders were professional and courtious. And of course, the discounts always offset the membership fee. :sunny:

AAA is my hero. I don't use it often, but it's been a lifesaver when I've needed it -- like the time that I had a harrowing flat on the expressway in the winter - 10 degrees below zero with ridges of frozen white, gray mountains everywhere. I get out of the car and am standing, in heels and a way, not warm dress coat, looking at the tire which is of course mounted under the SUV with despair. A tow truck pulls up behind me, sees the AAA sticker on the back window, cheerfully says, "Climb in my cab -- it's heated," changes the tire, loads the old one back up, then simply writes my card number down and I sign. He even preheated my car again. Or the time, just 2 months ago, on a 95 degree summer day when my 5 month old boxer puppy decided to step on the power locks when I'd gone back to the tent to grab a sweatshirt while camping in a state park in Hancock, MI in the middle of nowhere. Of course the windows were up and the rangers weren't allowed to open cars because someone had sued them for damaging their power locks, but they did call AAA. When AAA learned there was a puppy locked in the car, they were there in 15 minutes (and this park really was isolated...) Or the time the car died, as usual, on a frigid winter night, with a blizzard developing, in front of a steak restaurant. We went in and had a steak, while I called AAA and watched the tire change operation from the booth window. A signature and we were on our way in the preheated car. See why I like AAA?

We have had AAA for year and years. It is great security for us. I have a short commute to work of 24 miles each way on Interstate 80 and it's worth it for the peace of mind if something goes wrong. We haven't had to use it much but really appreciated having it when we did. We pay $90 a year for a premium package and I think it something good to have....just in case.

I also have a nice discount at the Poly using AAA. :)

Just wanted to chime in on the "is it worth it" part.

I've been a AAA member for a few years now. Many ask why *I* have AAA since I don't drive. Well, AAA membership is for a person, not a car. I can call for Roadside Assistance for any car I'm a passenger in - whether it's a friend's or a rental. And each year, using the hotels discounts, getting maps, pulling it out at the 'show your card and save' locations, purchasing traveler's checks, etc., I always break even and usually save money.

HTH!

It great to have. The wife car had a flat one morning and I was leaving out for work, didn't have time to change it. Triple A to the rescue. They came out with in 15 min and had the tire change in 5 min. The discounts for hotel rooms will save you a lot and I have used the road side service for friends.

I guess I'll let DH have his way and get a membership... :love2:
Seriously thanks for all the great replies!! They were just what I wanted to know. I knew I could count on my fellow Disers to give me the scoop!
Thanks Again!!
