This is a bucket list thing for me. Likely this will be my only cruise. Disney is supposed to be the best and I really love Disney.
I want midship balcony cabin to myself. so I will be paying double (I think). I want a simple 4 or 5 day Caribbean cruise. Last I checked (before the virus) there were several cruises stopping at Key West...that is what I am really looking forward to. I won't plan any excursions into Caribbean countries.
``I really want to sit on my balcony sipping a cup of tea, watching the ocean go by.
my question: I'm 62. I'm not interested meeting girls, I just want a relaxing time. Is Disney so family oriented that I would be better off on one of the other Cruise Lines? I'm thinking something like this will leave me out.
Tough question.
« Disney is supposed to be the best »: It’s great. But being the best is really subjective. I’ve had cruises that were juste as amazing on Carnival and Royal. Some will tell your their best was on Norwegian or Cunard.
A balcony. Key West. Those are things you could get on all of cruise lines.
Now, relaxing time: if you stick to adults areas, on a DCL ship: yes. In other areas? No.
The dining rooms, the shows, the music everywhere, most of the activities with the exception of alcohol tastings ($) and the two 18+ restaurants all of that is 100% disney themed. This is part of what drove us away from DCL at some point (We’ll be back someday but we need a long break).
Also, the price factor: I can get an equivalent itinerary on another cruise line for half the price of a DCL cruise. I’ve had balconies on another cruise line for the price of an inside cabin on DCL.
But DCL is great. It’s going to be a good cruise.
p.s.: Why would you not do any excursions? You could be missing out on some amazing experiences.
