Is 9 nights too long at AKL?

Hi,

Just looking for some opinions. We have AKL booked for 9 nights this October/November? Is this too long to be at one resort? We have to be there a minimum of 5 nights because my DH has things to do in Clermont.

We have done 6 and 7 night stays and then gone over to VB for a week.

What were your experiences. Would it be a hassle to switch over to the Contemporary for the last 2 nights?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi VB,

We originally had 9 nights booked at AKL as well. I thought that would be fine since there is so much to do at the resort and I wanted a day or two to just vegetate.

After reading so many posts about switching, guess what, now we are splitting our stay with the Poly. Doing 4 nights there and moving over to AKL for the last 5. Even went concierge at AKL.

Hopefully the transition won't be too much of a pain.

Allthough no amount of time would be too long to stay on property at DisneyWorld, 9 nights is too long to stay at any one resort, when there is so much WDW has to offer. I would definitely split my stay. I enjoyed the AKL very much on my last visit and I'm sure you will too, but I was ready for the next resort after just 3 nights. In fact, I have never been to WDW where I didn't split my stay between 2 resorts - sometimes 3! It is hassle free and I would recommend it to anyone staying more than 5 nights.

Boy, first of all let me say you are so lucky to have 9 days! Thats my dream! To answer your question I hear AKL is wonderful but I would split my stay with one of the monorail resorts (I like the Grand Floridian) or even Portifino Bay over at Universal. AKL is just so far from the rest of WDW although I hear the bus service is great and if you'll have a car none of this may matter.
Anyway, just my two cents! :D

I don't think 9 nights is too long at all -- There is so much to do at AKL that I think you guys'll have a great time.

Plus, it's extremely easy to get to Clermont from AKL. You're not that far from 192 or 27.

That said, moving from AKL to the Contemporary would be hassle-free -- Disney will do whatever they can to make it that way. (Including transferring your luggage!) Staying in a monorail resort is also lots of fun.

We split our stay in May with 4 nights at AKL and then 4 nights at WL. After all was said and done we wished that we had stayed at the AKL the whole time and never split our stay. AKL was so amazing, we absolutley fell in love with it...... 9 days at AKL is my dream! We did not feel in the least bit that we were too far from everything and the bus service was great. I guess if you have kids then a monorail resort is probably a good option but for us we will stay AKL the entire trip from now on. Have a great time:D

Thanks for all of the responses. Keep them coming.

We are checking in on a Thursday. DH is doing the Great Floridian Triathlon and he won't be able to do anything with us for most of Thursday and Friday while he prepares, then Sat. is the race-gone all day and then Sunday is recovery/sleeping.

He won't even get to enjoy the Lodge until Monday morning and we would at least want to stay until Wed. morning. I guess I'm just not sure we should switch for the last 2 nights.

We probably wouldn't switch to WL. I couldn't go from AKL Concierge to WL Concierge-big difference. We ejoyed WL Concierge very much but it's just different from AKL. When we go back to WL, it will be during Christmas time some year.

My DS said he actually wants to stay at the Contemporary and the more I look at it the more I like it.

We are doing MNSSHP on Halloween and thought maybe being on one of the monorail resorts would be nice.

We are only planning on going to MNSSHP for our MK time and to AK on the Tues. we do the Sunrise Safari. We tend to spend a lot of time at the resort we are staying at and relax a lot.

I want to stay at the Poly but we went there for lunch when we were at WL and it just didn't do anything for me. I have always wanted to stay there and I think maybe we just hit it on a bad day or something. There are a lot of people devoted to the Poly and that really makes me want to stay there to see what I'm missing.

Thanks for all the info.:D

We're going to WL (8 days)for the first part of our next trip and then moving to AKL (4 days). I think we'll enjoy staying at different resorts during the same trip.
We've done stays at CBR for 9 days and it can get a little bland after a while.

I stayed 9 nights at AKL last summer it was NOT too long... in fact I could have handled a couple of more days there.

We found that with the longer stay we did not have to do marathon days at the park.

We either did a park in the morning and spent the afternoon at the hotel... or relaxed at the hotel in the morning and headed to the parks at lunch time.

The resort is lovely, restaurants are good, pool is beautiful and oh there are Animals if you haven't heard!!

9 days at one place really gives you quality time and puts the "holiday" back in your holiday.

I say "STAY!"

>>^..^<<

I would like to live at AKL if I could. I love this resort, it's so nice and clean, great food, gift shop, excellent transportation, lovely pool area, hot tubs awesome, and the animals are so cool. Go for it all 9 days and have a great time!!;)

If you are going to do MNSSHP, then I would definitely stay a couple of nights at the CR! We did a similar split in December - we stayed at the CR for 3 nights to do MVMCP, then off to AKL Concierge for 3 nights to do Sunrise Safari.

The CR is great if you are in MK late at night - just hop onto the resort monorail - you are the first stop! No hassle waiting for a bus - carrying sleeping 6 year olds to/from the bus stop!

We love the CR - AKL was awesome - loved the animals, and the ambience, but definitely missed the sense of being in the middle of MK! I love to look out at the castle at night as it is changing colors! A split is a good way to go!
